Gap between Researchers and Practitioners • Despite the historical connectedness, well documented gap that currently exists • Practitioners do not often have knowledge of research or researchers • Researchers have not always addressed operational needs of practitioners • Efforts to bridge gap • Natural Hazards Workshop

  4. Professionalization of Emergency Management • Increase in higher education degrees in emergency management including graduate level • Doctoral programs require emergency management research to contribute to the existing body of knowledge
