  1. Trivia Surrounding the Face Cards The Jack, Queen and King are also referred to as the “Court” holding the highest point value in any game. In online rummy though, all these carry equal value, i.e., 10 points each. While at first glance, all these may look alike, but if you are someone who observes closely (another skill you can learn with online rummy), you are bound to notice a slight difference in their appearance. For example, all jacks have yellow hair, whereas the Kings and Queens have it white. Likewise, The Jack of Spades, Jack of Hearts and the King of Diamonds all face towards one side, thereby most commonly known as ‘one-eyed cards’. There are many more such interesting facts about face cards, but what concerns the rummy lovers is how best to use them in a game. Without further ado, here are some tips to help you deal with the most notorious cards in rummy.

  2. The Ultimate Question – To Discard or To Keep? While new players often go with the notion of discarding face cards at the earliest, smart ones try arranging them into different combinations first before letting them go. It is an essentially helpful strategy if you’ve got more face cards than the numbered ones. Rather than discarding all these cards right away, and wasting precious moves, it’s better to club them with others and form sets/sequences. You can do so in the first 3-4 turns, and let go of the ones that cannot form a part of any meld.

  3. The Pure Sequence Making at least one pure sequence is mandatory to grab a victory in rummy, and is often the trickiest to form. But if you’ve got a series of high-value cards of the same suit, then it’s better to use them for a pure sequence at the earliest. For example, you’ve got a Jack and King of Spades with only the Queen missing. There’s a high probability of the opponent discarding the said Queen in the first couple of turns itself, which you can pick up and complete the first condition of a valid declare in rummy.

  4. Be Quick to Act While we insist that you try and combine the face cards into valid sets/sequences, but keeping them close for too long is not a wise decision. You might not have sufficient time to discard the ones you don’t need towards the end of the game. It is best if you plan and implement your rummy strategy with these cards at the beginning of your game, so you have a good chance of discarding the ones that are not needed.

  5. Summing Up Though there are a lot of ways to deal with the face cards, than just discarding them straight away, but you still need to practice these tricks and strategies. Start with the vibrant tables at Rummy Passion, play practice games, to hone your skills, and then compete against different players on the cash tables and rummy tournaments. So what are you waiting for? Get to the tables now and practice these new tricks to master the art of dealing with the King, Queen and Jack in online rummy. Happy Gaming!

  6. Whether you’ve got too many face cards or not, keeping an eye on the other players’ discards is always a good strategy. • In case you are struggling to deal with the King, Queen or Jack, their discards will let you know whether they have the cards you need or not. • For example, if the opponent is discarding only low-value cards, it means he/she is making combinations with Face cards, and you must avoid giving them the cards they want. If they discard high cards as the general rule goes, you can pick these up to complete your melds. It’s a win-win situation for you. Look at What the Opponent Discards
