  1. The Stepping Stone • To excel at rummy, you need to be active, alert, observant, sharp, quick and wise – all at the same time. It is because the game is based on skills. • We’ve told you what to do, but you might be wondering how to do it. We are going to satiate your curiosity by slowly opening the cards of secret tips that you can implement and be a rummy winner.

  2. Unveiling the Secrets Making things easier for you to understand and grasp, let us know the tips with the help of examples: Example #1 • Why do we always advise you to be watchful? It is because by keeping an eye on the cards being picked and discarded by your opponent players, you can make a guess what combinations they could be aiming at. • Suppose a player picks 7♠ from the open pile, make sure you do not discard 5♠, 6♠, 8♠, 9♠ or even a 7 of some other suit, or else you might end up helping your adversary. Tip #1: Be vigilant and take care not to discard cards that might help the other players to easily meld their cards.

  3. Example #2 • Do you form a pure sequence with a joker card? In all probability, your answer would be ‘no’. Why? • It’s because that amounts to wasting a joker, which can otherwise be used in diverse ways. • Same would be the perception of other players too. So, if 6♣ is the wild card joker, you can safely drop cards like 4♣, 5♣, 7♣, 8♣. Tip #2:It is quite safe to discard cards close to the wild card joker. There are minimal chances of these cards being picked by your opponents

  4. Example #3 • What do you normally do with the high value cards you get? We’re talking about the number 10 cards, Jacks, Queens, Kings and Aces. • Discard them right at the beginning of the game is what most players do. And it is good to do so because they can push up your loss if an opponent player declares. • Now, an insight – let us assume you drop a Jack and some other player grabs it, you can conclude that s/he wishes to make a combination using that card. • Under this scenario, you should not drop cards such as number 10 cards, Queens or Kings. How about it? At the same time, you too can try making a pure sequence using such cards dropped by others. Tip #3:Make a careful choice when it comes to high value cards – whether to discard them or retain them.

  5. Example #4 It is actually the opposite of Tip #1. Your rival players get clues regarding what sequences or sets you intend to form (or not form) from the cards you pick from the open pile or discard to it. Assuming you drop 5♦, others are likely to think that you do not require cards such as 3♦, 4♦ or 6♦, 7♦. When there are more than 2 players, 2 decks of cards are used, and it is quite possible that you have two same cards. You can drop one of them. Tip #4:Deploy the ‘Baiting and Fishing’ technique to confuse other players and propel them to discard the cards you need.

  6. Example #5 An extension of Tip #4, here is bluffing. If you keep dropping low value cards as number 2 or number 3 cards, other players might assume that you are about to declare and finish the game. They might get intimidated and drop the game. Tip #5:A little bluffing is a good idea, especially when you know that you do not hold good cards and your prospects of winning are bleak. However, dropping is the advised strategy in such a scenario.
