  1. Signout Application Introduction and Training VCUHS Department of Internal Medicine

What is PatientKeeper? • Web-based application • Used for billing and charge capture • New Signout functionality added • Separate from EMR, but in direct communication with Cerner • Patient demographics • Coming: labs, meds, problem lists • Info is secure (password protected) and non-discoverable

  3. How to Access • Within VCUHS: • Type “pk” and enter into address field • NOT www.pk.com • From home: • Accessible through F5 application used for iNotes and Web Messaging

  4. From home: vcuhsra.mcvh-vcu.edu

  5. Enter username and password

  6. Patient names and Demographics – Directly imported, constantly updated from Cerner

  7. First-time sign-in: Change Password Click on Preference tab Edit Password

  8. First time covering team: Use drop-down menu to select primary team

  9. Select Patient from list Click “Sign-Out” Enter text in signout fields

  10. Notes re adding content • Caution if copying and pasting from Word • Foreign symbols may appear, e.g. Ä,ę • Be sure to delete any such symbols to prevent error messages • If error messages occur, try hitting F5 to reload content and replace symbols that may cause problems

Adding Content • Important fields: • Admission Hx, Active Issues & Medical Problems • Allergies and Contact info can be added to Medical Problems field until we have a specific place for this • Other fields optional, only appear in summary view if data entered • Bullet points only – less is usually more! • Remember the goal is to generate user-friendly tool for rapid heads-up info

  13. List of Pickers appears – Menus for groups of task

  14. If you can’t find task, use “Create Free Text Task”

  16. Click Save Task will appear here

  17. Then enter more details here To modify task details manually Double click on task

  18. Signout Summary View • Cross-Covering Provider can view all patients on list at once • Overviewtasks pending quickly • Use links to add or edit tasks • Print from this window

  19. Select Patient Summary, then Signout Summary, then Service

  20. Click here to view only patients with signout data entered (useful if only one intern has entered their signout)

  21. Tasks appear here with checkboxes for when a task is complete

Printing Signout • Aiming for online interaction > printing • Benefits of online interaction: • Checking off tasks completed • Entering new tasks for day team • Shared ownership of patients! • Rapid access to multiple teams that is continuously updated • Accessible anywhere • Future will include mobile/handheld devices so that signout still “portable”
