What observations did you make? Everyone can come to conclusions and solve problems in their own way. How do you eat a Reece’s? An Oreo? How do you solve a problem?

  5. Have a great day today! Help someone else have a great day too. A random act of kindness will mean the world to someone.

  6. Back of Index Card Tell me about the best teacher you ever had. What made that person such a good teacher? How do you learn best? Give me an example of a project or unit where you learned a lot. Describe the project in detail. Lab Book Bring your composition book to class tomorrow.

  7. Syllabus Hunt • Use the signs around the room to work with your partner to • answer the questions about my syllabus and expectations for • this class. • Try to keep your answers to yourself because there is a prize!!!!! • Some of the signs are hidden under tables, or inside cabinet • doors so look carefully. • None of the signs are behind my desk or in the lab.

  8. Classroom ExpectationsEveryone has the chance to move forward and learn in a safe and relaxed environment. Prompt Prepared Ready to Learn • Safety First- Students will abide by all lab safety rules, and behave in a positive and appropriate manner to ensure the safety of all in the classroom, school and community. • Learning Matters- Students will support the learning environment of the classroom by being positive role models and acting as assistants to the teacher and each other. • Respect- Students will demonstrate respect at all times for our environment, safety, learning and each other.

  9. What that means to me.  • Be aware of what you say. • You should be courteous and respectful to everyone at all times. • Hateful comments about race, gender, sexuality, political views, appearance, or of any other type will not be tolerated; this applies to serious as well as “joking” comments. • Keep your hands to yourself. • Stay in your seat. • Chose your opportunities to sharpen pencils and interrupt carefully. • Have everything you need ready before class begins.

  10. What this means to me “2” . • Leave the food at home. • No eating or drinking in the lab. This includes candy. Closable • containers of water are permitted in my classroom. • Nothing goes airborne. • Nothing will go airborne in class at any time. This includes pens, • paper, and other students. Experiments permitted by ME  are the exception. • Please don’t use the terms “shut up” or “retarded”. • These phrases have no place in school. Please do not use them.

  11. Emergency Preparedness Calm!! Orderly Responsible Understanding

  12. Lab Safety Study Guide • Here is a copy of a lab safety quiz. • Work with a partner to brainstorm the answers and then we’ll go over them as a class. • Use this study guide to help you prepare for the safety questions that will appear on your tests for me and the district EOC. • You may use this handout on September 7th when you do a project that reflects what you know about safety. • After we review the answers we’ll watch the district safety video and discuss key parts that relate to our labs. • Remember that you cannot participate in labs if you and a parent/guardian do not read the district safety contract and sign/return the last page.
