  2. Immigration: Study Permit A study permit is the official document granted by the Government of Canada that gives you permission to study in Canada. It also gives you the right to remain in Canada for the duration of the permit – one to 4 years.

  3. Immigration: Study Permit To qualify, the applicant must have been formally admitted into a Canadian school and be able to prove that he or she has sufficient funds to pay for studies and living expenses during the time he or she is in Canada.

  4. Immigration: Study Permit The Canadian immigration authorities will also assess the applicant to determine whether they believe the person will likely return to his or her home country after completion of studies in Canada.

  5. Immigration: Study Permit Persons who wish to visit Canada for business or for tourism may need to obtain a “Temporary Resident Visa”, or Canada visitor visa, before doing so. Citizens of some countries are exempt from this requirement but most are not. Visitor visas are usually valid for six months and may be extended from within Canada.

  6. Immigration: Study Permit They may be single or multiple entry. In assessing whether to grant a Canada visitor visa to an applicant, the Canadian immigration authorities will assess whether the prospective visitor has a valid reason for visiting, enough money to pay for the visit, and is likely to return to his or her home country at the completion of the visit.
