  3. 1 - Course, instructor CG-230 Dreamweaver previously graphic designer, then web architect for Compaq Canada now a web consultant with WebDiva Consultants email: hk@webdiva.bz • will devote 1.5 hours weekly on Mondays • will respond by Tuesdays • absolutely no attachments

  7. 4 - General admin naming conventions • host server’s default home page convention • asp vs stm vs htm • “underscore” folder to ensure easy retrieval in directory • reduce, recycle, reuse! - images, scripts, etc. • no funky characters in filename or folder name except hyphen or underscore site layout and organization • operating structure - organized and intuitive • use the storyboarding technique where storyboarding is a small sketch that represents every page in a site; like a flowchart, a storyboard shows the relationship of each page to the other pages in the website and are very helpful in the planning phase because they allow you to visualize how each page in the site is linked to others

  11. 4 - General admin (cont’d) site layout and organization (cont’d) • if working on a web production team • use DW’s check-in/out feature • version protection strongly advised (ex: MS VSS or CVS) • use DW’s design notes to communicate with team • technical • back up!! • anti-virus software • disaster recovery plan • plan ahead (ex: virtual includes) • ecommerce is all about customer sat - enhance shopping experience, combat online fraud, better handle returns • online retail spending hit $40.2 billion in the US in 2002 (1.4% of the $3.16 trillion retail industry)and is expected to continue to climb steadily (Jupiter Media Metrix, April 2003) • the consumer has become more comfortable with shopping online and the big credit card companies have introduced zero liability for greater consumer comfort
