  3. Expectations and Procedures Please review, sign and return to homeroom teacher: Expectations and Procedures Classroom Contract Homework Policy

  4. Homework Policy Homework is assigned directly to support and enhance learning taking place in the classroom and it is vital to your student’s success. Homework is expected to be submitted on the assigned due date. Policy is as follows: A loss of points will accrue with each additional day that an assignment is late. Students will be assigned to the O.R. as a result. 2 visits to the O.R. = lunch AND recess detention with 6th grade teacher and notification to parents. Excessive missing assignments will result in a parent conference.

  8. Math New Text - Go Math • No more Simple Solutions! • Textbook / Workbook • based on the common core standards • Offers online opportunities additional practice, assessment, intervention and videos to demonstrate skills.

  9. Math Expect homework regularly as it enforces what was taught and practiced in the classroom. Weekly Quizzes. Module / Unit Tests every 3-4 weeks.

Math Fractions and Decimals Ordering, operations, conversion Number Sense Place value, exponents, order of operations Ratios and Percent Representation, applying rates Geometry Angles, polygons, area, circumference, perimeter, surface area, volume Probability and Data/Statistics central tendency, analyzing/summarizing data

  13. Language Arts --We will be learning comprehension strategies -Purpose for Reading -Answering literal, inferential, evaluative, and synthesizing questions --We will be gaining a deeper understanding of literary elements -Plot, Setting, Character, Theme, Etc. -Types of Genres

  14. Language Arts ---Most of our published work will be completed at school. --Research skills and integration of technology will be a main focus in Language Arts classes. --Students will continue to read 30 min. in the classroom and 30 min. at home each evening.

  15. Language Arts --Students may count reading Social Studies, Religion, Science, Health, Math, magazines, online sites (Schlastic.com, Newsela App, Discoverykids.com) as steps! --Commonsensemedia.org to check what your kids are reading

  16. Language Arts -As an alternative to Spelling books, we will study Greek/Latin stems. This will help prepare the students when transitioning into Jr. High. \

  19. Social Studies • Ancient Civilizations • 8 features of a civilization • Mesopotamia, Egypt, China and Indian • Characteristics of a civilization, similarities and differences, unique features, etc. • Geography • Latitude and Longitude, location, kinds of maps, land characteristics

  20. Social Studies • Economics • Supply and Demand • Consumer Choices • Government • Roles of Citizens • Different Types of Government and reasons for Government

  22. Sixth Grade Camp Where: Cuyahoga Valley Environmental Education Center (CVEEC) in Peninsula, Ohio When: Tuesday, Feb. 3rd - Friday, Feb. 6th, 2014 (4 days/3 nights) Cost: $220.00 per student; includes all meals, transportation, programming, and t-shirt
