Background & Objectives • The city of Hartford has been in decline since hitting its population peak in 1950. • Studies show that problems associated with urban decay, such as crime, poverty, and issues of racial segregation, can spread to the surrounding suburbs. • My objective is to analyze the increasing geographic spread of social and economic racial/ethnic inequalities and segregation throughout Harford County associated with the continuing decline of Hartford, CT.

  4. Results • Hartford’s Demographics: • White: 27.7% • Black: 38.1% • Hispanic: 40.5% Hartford’s Population Change: 1970-1990: -13.1% 1990-2000: -14.9%
