  1. PITCH

  2. LADY First idea

  3. Synopsis- • This is a narrative short film which is based in the era of the 80’s this follows a young women called Janet Turner taking on the challenges society has to offer her in the work place, where expectations of women were changing and fighting for independence. However, some people had a different view on this. Go on a journey back to 1982 to the inner mind of a women in the 80’s where they were becoming stronger than ever before.

  4. About the character: Janet Turner • A eye opener into the world of a women and her thoughts as all she wants to be is independent women who takes charge of her own life and not let anybody get in her way to do so.  • As we meet a business women taking on the typical everyday life of a women however, there’s a little bit of Bridget jones you see in her from her aiming high, quite confident, messy, dedicated and independent. She only cares about work and dedicated and motivated to please her boss so then she can have a little more respect than none.

  5. Contextualization – Cultural - I love learning about the history on how much women have gained independence from the 1980’s era to where we are now. To link this with my research I can analyze the gender roles between men and women in the 80’s and how people accepted the change. I will conduct this by looking through articles and books based on the change in society within that era. Social- How women were on the rise within society and I would be looking at the change society had at the time within Adverts, in homes and workplaces. I shall look at the inner lives of men and women in the 80’s and compare it to now. To look closer into the lifestyle and representation the two genders had at that time such as social status or the way they look.

  6. Why the idea? • I’ve always loved the world and aesthetic of the 80’s from the the perm to the bright shoulder padded blazers. How it was filmed and the textures of the colour correction to the grain. The directing style from the likes of the infamous Breakfast club and Sixteen candles from the American director John Hughes. I’ve always been in love with 80’s music and films since I was in my young teens and family members reminiscing when they were my age or 20 working in London as a personal assistant or banker for NatWest.

  7. Literature Review • For my research I will be looking at the style in the workplace within a office and the expected actions and life that was within the 80’s. • For my primary research I shall be interviewing various members of my family to ask them about there experience within the workplace as a women or man during this era. • Analyzing Films and adverts – drawing up a review on 2 different films and adverts, to express my opinion on the narrative and outlook they may have toward the 80’s.

  8. Literature review – Secondary Research • Researching through news articles online, YouTube videos to understand the difference in how men and women were treated and what the view was from both genders on women gaining more independence and starting to earn for themselves instead of being a stay at home mother. • As well as this I will also be looking at biographies from influential people. • Researching, 80’s style (hairstyle, outfits for men and women), understanding the popular entertainment at the time and companies. • Office locations/interiors – inside 80’s offices so I may look at the Tv show The office (2001) for that as it is based in the 80’s in which I think may help a lot.

  9. Similar media products - • 9 to 5 (1980’s) directed by Colin Higgins • Featured – Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eI6Ol7aX6mk • As I looked at this I noticed the independence as its all about three women getting back at the men for disrespecting them in the work place. I loved how empowering it really was to see women working together and becoming in charge to break down the barriers the expectations of society had made. • The target audience was defiantly young women at work and looking at a fun light hearted film.

  10. Research design - • I would design a interview with serval people who have an opinion on gender equality and have experienced what it was like for women in the work place with the 1980’s. • I would also want to experiment various techniques such as using the dolly for tracking shots that I want at the introduction of the film so then I can test if the location has got the right surface for it as well as getting the right pace to make it smooth enough.

  11. Target Audience – • 20-30 years old • Female • Historical interested in the 80’s society • Young working interested in the challenges women took as, women were becoming more independent and was a barrier breaker in the history of gender equality then.

  12. THIS IS US Second Idea

  13. We never hear the true views of our society today.

  14. Synopsis- This is a experimental 3 minute short film, which represents the voice and view on the recent events of todays news and politics through using various pieces of footage such as archive, owned and spoken word representing a point of view within the public eye. The skill I will focus on is the techniques on the camera work and visuals

  15. Social/Political • Political- There is so much that needs to be said and how much politics and the world is changing todays society's . With laws adding and changing. Historic events happening in front of our very eyes. Look at the historic events that have affected us most • Social – Peoples opinions on what needs to change and how it should change.- Asking people there view on todays world and how it has affected them.

  16. Literature Review • Primary Research- • Archive – from various new outlets: BBC,ITV,SKY – Historic events and key moments in today. • Old archive representing the historic history of our culture and politics. • Newspapers – Headlines – Politics, key events and headlines that get people thinking • Films – documentary's on our world today such as the gun laws in America or the Eu and how its manipulating us • Adverts/Campaigns- that try to make us think about our society.

  17. Similar media products

  18. Alicia Keys – Campaign during Barack Obamas presidency. • As I look at it again and again it is so powerful the way it is incorporated together how the graphics and transitions flow. The sound as if she is marching for victory. • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vsznw8_F7o • Alicia Keys – Holy war – how I want it represented • The reason why I had chosen this as a similar media product is because it shows it in the style I would like my short film to be similar to such as the words and cinematography. It represent each word which make people understand the song even more with its simple shots. • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zed17O3vNgI

  19. Research Design - • I would be conducting serval interviews in a variety of ages and ask them how they feel about todays society and if they had the chance what would they change? I would ask them this because it gives me an incite into other peoples views rather than just my own. This would give me a wider view on the publics opinion within certain situations that have occurred within America and Britain. • I will also be conducting a experiment with transitions and ways to presents the words from the spoken words piece like they did on the video. Holy war By Alicia Keys.

  20. Target Audience • 20-30 years old • Male and female • People that love spoken word/powerful videos that reflect on todays society. • Interested in: spoken word , politics, reflecting on Americas and Britain's changes and historic events that has changed the way we all think about society.
