  4. Policy Harmonization

  5. 2013 Objectives • Revise key performance indicators (KPI) and program parameters and compile data for each of the 11 programs • Conduct multi-factorial analysis using KPI tool to determine trends among programs and practices that would lead to high program performance in a given context • Establish glossary of terms used • Clearly define “best performing programs” • Develop report of EPR program “best practices”

  6. Complete draft summaries for 11 EPR programs FYE 2013 FYE 2014 • Timelines Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Refine and finalize information on EPR program summaries Draft list of KPIs and Program Practices and Parameters Establish glossary of terms Clearly define “best performing programs” Develop report on EPR program best practices Coordinate progress with policy and other committee members

  7. Co-Chairs: • Al Metauro, Dan Lantz – Cascades Recovery Inc. • Das Soligo – County of Wellington System Optimization

  8. System Optimization

  9. 2013 Objectives • Determine the costs of the current collection systems • Approach will be to benchmark costs in Ontario and Quebec and to analyze MRF material balance • Determine what is the ideal future collection system that can handle/process all 117 materials that are being captured in current collection systems • Approach will be to consider a greenfield system and determine a service delivery model and the costs of managing all 117 materials • Determine what is required to transition from an existing infrastructure to the ideal future system infrastructure • Develop cost and material balance models based upon the above study items • Define and support a pilot / trial program with the Materials Optimization team that assesses the impact of a package design change / improvement that increases collection and economical recovery with a viable and profitable end market

  10. Determine the costs of the current collection systems Support a pilot / trial program with Material Opt that assesses the impact of a package design change Determine what is the ideal future collection system that can handle all 117 materials Develop Materials Flow Model Develop cost and material balance models based upon the above study items Determine what is required to transition from an existing infrastructure to ideal infrastructure FYE 2013 FYE 2014 • Timelines Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Coordinate with work of other groups e.g. Material Opt Communicate results

  11. Co-Chairs: • Guy McGuffin – Guy McGuffin Consulting • Frances Gamache - Sobeys Material Optimization

  12. Material Optimization

  13. 2013 Objectives • Address recovery barriers and broadening scope for PET thermoforms through voluntary initiatives concerning 1. Adhesives; 2. Florescent additives; 3. Lookalike plastics • Address issues concerning shrinkwrap full sleeve bottle labels • Provide next steps as a result of the CPIA/SO/CIF flexible film study

  14. Coordinate with work of other groups e.g. System Opt Address recovery barriers and broadening scope for PET thermoforms Provide next steps as a result of the CPIA/SO/CIF flexible film study Propose voluntary trial program/pilot for flexible films FYE 2013 FYE 2014 • Timelines Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Address issues concerning shrink wrap full sleeve bottle labels Complete trial program/pilot for flexible film Roll Out approach to new material categories
