The role of the school mentor ‘In brief, a subject mentor’s main functions are to support and guide all aspects of your development while in school…’ • Work closely with the PCM and university tutor • Attend school based mentor training and HEI based mentor training sessions • Provide induction into departmental procedures • Negotiate at timetable that meets the needs of the student • Weekly training/mentor meeting • Receive and review lesson plans • Arrange weekly lesson observations – formal • Jointly observe and give feedback with HEI tutor • Monitor progress towards profile, complete profile by due date(s) • Can choose to take part in the interview process and/or contribute to subject specific sessions at HEI • Best Evidence Record and School Experience File • Progress check and cause for concern

Key dates • HEI days 14th November 2012 & 19th December • 29th Oct to 3rd Nov – half term, HEI sessions • w/b 10th December – profile submission Foundation • 18th Feb to 22nd Feb – half term, HEI sessions • w/b 18th March – profile submission Developmental • HEI day 22nd March 2013 • w/b 20th May – profile submission Consolidation • 24th May – end of placement
