  3. Latitude • Equator • Parallel circles earth halfway between North and South Poles • Labeled 0 degrees, no direction • All parallels at equal distance from each other • Labeled in degrees North or South

  4. Longitude • All meridians at equal distance from each other • Labeled in degrees, East or West • Prime meridian • Labeled 0 degrees, no direction

  5. Recording Latitude and Longitude • Latitude is always written first • North or South • Longitude is always written second • East or West • 0 has no direction • Examples • (48N, 100E); (0, 54W); (118S, 0)
