  2. Mission Statement Charles Herbert Flowers Technology Department has a mission to provide students with the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to be productive members of society.  Students need technology to enhance their abilities to exist in a diverse and technologically complex world. It is our intent to provide students with the access to technology so they will be proficient in today’s information age.

  3. Beliefs This mission provides both a vision and a standard to guide departmental efforts. It is based upon the following beliefs: • Students are capable of learning and must have the opportunity to learn. • The educational environment must be caring, safe, non-disruptive and non-biased. • All Our neighborhood and business communities must be active participants in the educational process. • Academic excellence must be developed through high standards and high expectations.

  4. Beliefs (cont.) • Students must meet a prescribed set of competencies to graduate. • Students need opportunities to experience success and to build self-esteem. • Success of students is measured in a variety of ways.

  5. Goals The technology goals for students are divided into six categories. Standards within each category are to be introduced, reinforced, and mastered by students. These categories provide a framework for linking performance indicators within Technology to the standards. Technology Foundation • Students master basic operations and concepts . • Students demonstrate a sound understanding of the nature and operation of technology systems. • Students are proficient in the use of technology.

  6. Goals (cont.) Social, ethical, and human issues • Students understand the ethical, cultural, and societal issues related to technology. • Students practice responsible use of technology systems, information, and software. • Students develop positive attitudes toward technology uses that support lifelong learning, collaboration, personal pursuits, and productivity.

  7. Goals (cont.) Technology productivity tools • Students use technology tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity. • Students use productivity tools to collaborate in constructing technology-enhanced models and produce other creative works. Technology communications tools • Students use telecommunications to collaborate, publish, and interact with peers, teachers, and other audiences. • Students use a variety of media and formats to communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences.

  8. Goals (cont.) Technology research tools • Students use technology to locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources. • Students use technology tools to process data and report results. • Students evaluate and select new information resources and technological innovations based on the appropriateness for specific tasks.

  9. Goals (cont.) Technology problem-solving and decision-making tools • Students use technology resources for solving problems and making informed decisions. • Students employ technology in the development of strategies for solving problems in the real world. Teacher Credentials and Biographies Tom Scercy\Technology Coordinator Education: • BS Frostburg State University Secondary Mathematics MS Towson University Instructional Technology Certification: Advanced Professional Certificate • Philosophy:Educational Technology Team We define educational technology as comprising all hardware, software and communication systems that enhance education. We believe in cultivating a learning environment that promotes gathering information and solving problems through the use of educational technology. We believe in fostering this philosophy among faculty, students, administration and community.

  20. Teacher Credentials and Biographies Tara Jones Education: • BA Hampton University Mass Media Arts • MA University of Maryland at College Park Radio, Television and Film Certification: Advanced Professional Certificate • Courses Taught: Television Production 1, Television Production 2 , Tech Foundations B • Philosophy: I believe that all students are capable of learning. Tara Jones, Radio Television, News, Directors Foundation Teacher Ambassador, is a veteran teacher currently at Charles Herbert Flowers high school in Springdale, Maryland. Her students learn how to create television-from concept to completion-with a focus on the technical, creative and administrative. It is her goal to connect with organizations that will give her students "real world" experience and support her efforts in the classroom.

Philosophy: It takes an entire community to raise a child.

  23. Teacher Credentials and Biographies Frederick Lamont Fisher, II is the product of the Prince George’s County Public School (PGCPS) system. He has enjoyed a successful career as an engineer and entrepreneur. He has been in the Information Technology (IT) and communications industry for over twenty-seven years. He has experienced tremendous success designing networks and systems, managing multi-millions dollar IT projects of fortune 500 companies, founding and business developing non-profit and for-profit organizations, and teaching and training IT theory and concepts. Mr. Fisher attended TESST technology institute where he received an associate degree in electronic engineering. He also attended Potomac College where he received his bachelors degree in information systems/information technology (IS/IT). He most recently attended George Washington University where he received a masters in business administration (MBA) with a project management emphasis. Mr. Fisher is very active in his church and community. Part of his desire to give back to the community of which he is a product of is pursuing his passion of becoming an educator. He is a provisional teacher teaching technology education at Charles H. Flower’s high school under the direction of principle Helena Noble-Jones. He is pursuing his teacher’s certification. He is also a professor at his Alma Mata Potomac College. Mr. Fisher’s love for the youth and concern for their success is the motivation to pursuing his passion as an educator.

  24. Teacher Credentials and Biographies Educational Background: -Bach. Degree in English, University of Maryland, College Park. -Additional Education Credits from Catholic University, Trinity College, and P.G.C.C. -PG County Conditional cert. in English & Technology (grades 7-12)(s)(ra). -Accreditation in Tech Ed from the College of New Jersey. -Accreditation in Line Production through Dov Simmons @ American University. -Accreditation in Film Direction through Dov Simmons @ American University. -Cert. in Air Conditioning from World Pac. -Cert. in Bio-Energy from M. Wirkus. I believe that education should be a marriage of "hands on" learning as well as conventional teaching practices. I am currently melding my skills as a reader/writer/producer, with those of the engineering field. This will hopefully translate into better reading, fabricating, and writing students. I am using my vast experience in electronics, robotics, and mechanics to join forces with writing, reading, and actual experimentation to try and bring a level of work that will be commensurate to a college educational experience. I am planning on creating many more educational films, labs, and anything that will fit the constantly changing face of Engineering. Our students must learn the newest things in order to avoid moving out into the real world poorly equipped with antiquated knowledge.
