Explain Problem Solving Stages • We are in 1st step Contracting • Problem Identification- teacher describes concerns, IA’s conducted, prioritize concerns, establish baseline, set goals of 3 – 6 weeks. • Strategy intervention design- the What, When, How Often, Conditions and Who of IC. • Strategy Intervention Implementation- have we done what was planned? • Strategy Intervention Evaluation- data collection, relate to baseline and goals, connect outcomes to classroom expectations, Conduct IA. • Follow Up / Redesign- revisit, revise, refine and re-try • Closure- goals met, teacher is comfortable with integrated strategy or try again if data doesn’t support problem.

  6. Clarify focus of problem-solving • Page 47 book 1 • Page 65 book 1 Application of strategies for other similar students • Mis-matches will happen….. Strategies we come with you’ll probably find they will work with other students as well.

  7. Teachers role as primary contact to parents • Teacher will make decision on whether or not they would like to inform or provide information regarding the student’s IC outcomes. • IC case managers will never make parent contact. Clarify shared ownership • Collaborative in Nature from beginning to end, I will be sitting shoulder to shoulder with you the whole way

  8. Share how assessment and data collection will be related to classroom performance • We will be collected data along the way, I will need your help. How can you manage this in your classroom?

  9. Assure non evaluative nature of process • Non-judgmental process • Will not report anything to the principal and it will not be used for evaluation purposes. Confidentiality • IC Team will only be notified where we are in the process, if we are at a dead end and need more suggestions we can use the IC Team for that reason, only with your permission and you would be invited to be there as well.

  10. Meeting Time, Check for Agreement and Commitment, Arrange next meeting • Time to meet- depends on how aggressive you want to problem solve. More often we meet sooner we may close the case. Up to you and what time you can give to collaborate. • Will this process be a support to you? • When can we meet next to discuss your concern? Bring textbook/other materials we can look at to do an IA from.
