  1. Life After High School Project Algebra II Honors Fall 2013 Mrs. Latoya

  2. Project Overview This project is about YOU and what it will take to live on your own. This may occur as soon as next year or a few years from now. Your assignment is to choose an occupation, discover what education you need to enter that field, and find out what your cost of living will be during and after high school. To demonstrate what it will take to live within your means, you will be required to keep a balanced monthly checkbook during this project. You must have proof of all of your discoveries.(research). You can research all of this information on the internet, newspapers, books, relatives, and friends. All of this information will be kept in a portfolio (3 ring binder)to be turned in at the end of the unit. Your portfolio WILL contain all of the following:

  3. Occupation • What job would you like to perform and why? • What is the job outlook for this field? • What is the entry level earnings for this job? • How much will your take home pay be after taxes, and FICA?

  5. Eduction/Job Training A. What institution will you attend to receive the training for your chosen occupation? B. What is the cost per year to attend this institution? 1. Tuition 2. Room, board if applicable 3. Books, etc C. How will you pay for this? 1. Savings - provide proof 2. Scholarships - show application forms, amounts, etc. 3. Student loans - will require loan calculator evidence 4. Parents - need to write a note of their contributions and sign it D. If you do not plan to attend school an alternative assignment will be given.

Townhouse - monthly payment and association dues? • What will be your utility costs? 1. Electricity - rent or own? 2. Gas - rent or own? 3. Water/Sewer 4. Cable TV/Internet 5. Cell Phone/Home Phone

  11. Food • Go to a grocery store and obtain prices. • Itemize the prices, add them up, and multiply by 4 for a monthly budget. • Include treats like candy and coffee. • Include times to eat out at restaurants.

  12. Miscellaneous • Household items (paper towels, TP, cleaning supplies, detergents, etc.) • Personal Items (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, etc) • Haircuts, tanning, etc D. Find prices from local stores. Itemize…

  15. Final Portfolio All evidence and reflections should be contained in a three ring binder You project is DUE. January 10th
