  1. QUESTION OF DIFFERENCES:VERBAL ABILITY AND VOICES CLASS A7 Lecturer: Mr. KelikWachyudi., S.S., M.Hum

  2. Debates About Questions Of Differences Sex differences in voice or voice characteristics? Speech style produces identity or identity produces speech style? Gender essentialism is one the cornerstones. Verbal ability and voice have biological origins. Men will be admirable, women will be blamed. (Coates-1986) Higher education was bad for women. (Clacke-1873)

  3. Verbal Ability No sex differences in verbal ability. (Hyde and Linn-1988) Kimura (1992) claimed about sex differences in functional organization. Asking about sex differences in verbal abilities may not be very good questions.

  4. Gender And Voice Males have larger larynxes or voice boxes than females. Women tend to have higher-pitched than men. (Eakins and Eakins-1978) Vocal sex stereotypes are used in people’s judgements of the sex of speaker. Men and women can speak using a similar pitch. Speaking pitch are different across culture. (Graddol and Swann-1989) Voice was observed as indexing gender.
