  2. Tentative • Not final • Adjective • When the poor, unknowing little girl noticed the gorilla statue, her steps became tentative to such an extent that she would stop for minutes at a time to simply stare in fear.

  3. Provocative • Exciting; attracting attention • Adjective • The unusual sculpture was provocative to such an extent that it had to be relocated to a less noticable location.

  4. Depravity • Moral corruption • Noun • MTV tends to assume that we are a wicked and depraved generation; prove them wrong. Depiction of Soddom and Gomorrah being destroyed by God. (Genesis)

  5. Adversary • An opponent; enemy • Noun • The man had acquired many a powerful adversary over the years due to his willingness to make sacrifices in order to achieve goals during the time in which he was a buisnessman.

  6. Gravity • Seriousness • Noun • The small rock that had ruined the sub-orbital spacecraft’s propulsion system was not at all affected by the gravity of it’s predicament, though it would soon be incinerated due to the heat of re-entry.

  7. Banal • Common; dull; ordinary • Adjective • Yao Ming is not exactly the most banal person in the world, mainly for vertical reasons.

  8. Temper • To moderate; to soften • Verb • After he had developed the intemperable habit of playing air piano, he could not stop himself from practicing said habit whenever his fingers were not otherwise occupied.

  9. Extol • To praise • Verb • The way he extoled God in the open astounded those around him.

  10. Erratic • Irregular; without direction • Adjective • His erratic behavior confounded those in the police department.

  11. Euphony • Pleasant sound • Noun • The symphony produced a euphony, full of interchanging harmonies.

  12. Advocate • To speak in favor of; to support • Verb • All I had to do was relax in my chair and let my dedicated advocate advocate for me.

  13. Insipid • Bland; boring; tasteless • Adjective • The hostess was confused; the food was not insipid at all, and yet they all declined the meal when they saw their plates.

  14. Indulgent • Pampering oneself; satisfying desires • Adjective • He was a little over-indulgent, almost gluttonous, in his eating habits.

  15. Antagonism • Opposition; hostility; resistance • She hounded him constantly, attempting to brow-beat him into carrying her books; it didn’t work.

  16. Austere • Severe; without frills • Adjective • He was very…austere…in the punishments that he gave students; in fact, the punishments were only legal by a hairsbreadth.
