  1. NPMA Conference & Seminar Planning Committee Briefing for Chapter Presidents Presenting proposed changes to Conference Series June 16, 2011 NPMA Conference & Seminar Planning Committee Wayne Norman, CPPM Northrop Grumman Steven F. Holland, CPPM Booz | Allen | Hamilton Co-chairs

  2. NPMA Seminar Committee (CSPC) • Wayne Norman, CPPM (Co-chair) • Steve Holland, CPPM (Co-chair) • Ivonne Bachar, CPPM CF • Brian Thompson, CPPM CF • Marcia Whitson, CPPM CF • Maria Maggio, CMP • Regional Vice Presidents: • Russ Johnson, Western • Mike Puryear, CPPM CF, Central • Brandon Kriner, CPPM CF, Eastern Welcome!

  3. NPMA Seminar Committee Objectives • Carry out the 2011 Chartered responsibilities • Provide a specialized resource for strategically planning regional and national educational events; • Improve seminars with consideration for membership feedback • Define the overall curriculum to ensure flexibility for attendees; less repetition • Provide unique content that can be marketed to a broader audience; and • Maximize attendance at our cornerstone events.

  4. Seminar History and Path Forward • Seminars were known as Regional Seminars, Western, Central and Eastern; Now Conference Series • 4 events per year including NES • Much planning, much energy and resources for low financial gain with less than desirable attendance • Conference and Seminar Planning Committee (CSPC) has drafted a new model which has been reviewed with most executive board members and a few Chapter Presidents with favorable reaction • Next Step- Today’s meeting with all Chapter Presidents

  5. Proposal at a High Level • We propose a model that features three major events per year- NES and two regional conference series events. • Each Region has one event to focus on each year • The region that hosts NES would focus on NES and thus not host a Conference Series event that year. • We will have ample calendar windows to spread NES and the regional events apart from one another, thus reducing the dilution and conflict, and increasing the appeal of each event.

  6. Changes to the Financial Model • In this new financial model the Region and Chapter is receiving a significant guaranteed, fixed revenue stream from hosting NES (and giving up hosting their Region/Conference Series event that year) and an additional variable incentive based on attendance which could prove to be very lucrative. • The host Chapter will receive 6 complimentary NES registrations. • The host chapter will also guarantee a volunteer level, or share hosting with another chapter. • The hosting region/chapter now has an financial incentive to market and promote attendance from their members (this is a win-win for us all)

  7. New Financial Model Data The new financial model split benefits to both the host chapter and region, with the fixed fees ensuring financial success for both; the incentive fees can be lucrative and also will boost attendance, a win-win for all parties.

  8. Chapter proceeds outlook New model provides better proceeds for all Host Chapters based upon recent results

  9. What is next • IF the consensus feedback at this President’s meeting is positive- • Then we need to move forward together to ensure a positive result at NES Regional and Delegates meetings • We need to get the final document emailed to all Chapter Presidents • We need you the Chapter Presidents to discuss this with your board, delegates at a minimum and members as time allows • We need for the delegates/audience who will be attending the Regional Board meetings at NES to have been briefed • The committee will support the board meetings at NES • The vote will to be to accept the document in its entirety • We need a positive result from the three regions and a positive vote at the National Delegates meeting • A negative answer from any of the 3 will probably keep us in same old/same old mode for another year at least
