  1. In our study of Integers the student will be able to perform addition with integers and show what they have learned by finding sums.

  2. Integers Integers are whole numbers and their opposites. Zero is neither positive or negative

  3. What are zero pairs? -8 8 …a pair of numbers that have the same distance from zero. Name some zero pairs.

  4. Name some zero pairs.

  5. Real World Integers

  6. Absolute Value Absolute Value: A number’s distance from zero. = 13 2

  7. Adding Integers Same Signs Add and keep the Same Sign. -8 + -9 = -17 +5 + +18 = +23

  8. Add With Different Signs: • Find the difference • Keep the sign of the largest absolute value. 8 + -13 = -5 -28 + 43 = 15

  9. Subtracting Integers LCC = Add the opposite 8 – (-12) = 8 + (+12) 20

  10. Multiply/Divide Integers Same Signs = Positive Different Signs = Negative + x + = + - x + = - + x - = - + + - x - = + - + - - - +

  11. Class Notes Integers and Absolute Value Define the following terms: Integer Graph Coordinate Absolute Value

  12. Definitions • Integers-Whole numbers and their opposites –3, +4, -5,100, -56 • Graph - to locate a number and draw a dot at that point on the number line • Coordinate- the integer that corresponds to a letter on a number line. • Absolute Value- a numbers distance from zero

  13. We compare integers using the following symbols: > means: Greater than 7 > -3 < means: Less than -3 < 7 = equal to 5 = 8 + 2 Comparing and Ordering Integers

  14. Comparing and Ordering Integers Rule The integer farthest to the right on a number line is always the largest. 2 > - 8

  15. ADD Different Signs: Subtract & use sign of largest Absolute Value ADD Same Signs: Add & keep the same signs = -212 - (-16) = 2 + 16 =18 –8 + 3 = -5 -8 + -3 = -11 13 + -4 = +9 +7 ++5 = +12 Subtract Add the opposite Multiply or Divide Same Signs : Positive -8 - 13 = -8 + -13 -8 x –3 = 24 20/5 = 4 Different signs: Negative -8 x 3 = -24 -24/3 = -8

  16. Number Properties 1. 239 CP+ 2. 1300 CPx 3. 36 AP+ 4.1600 APx
