  5. 2004 Graduation Program – 80 Credits 1. Required 48 credits: • Language Arts 10*, 11, 12* 12 credits • Social Studies/Science Humaines 10 4 credits • Social Studies/Science Humaines 11* 4 credits • Science 10* 4 credits • A Science 11 4 credits • Mathematics/Mathématiques 10* 4 credits • A Mathematics 11 4 credits • Physical Education 10 4 credits • Fine Arts or Applied Skills 10, 11 or 12 4 credits • Planning/Planification 10 4 credits 2. Graduation Transitions 4 credits ------------------------------- 3. Electives (Grade 10, 11 and 12) 28 credits TOTAL 80 credits *Provincial Exam A minimum of 16 credits must be at the Grade 12 level. This includes 4 credits for a Language Arts 12 course, but does not include the 4 credits for Graduation Transitions Students must also complete one Fine Arts or Applied Skills course in Gr 10, 11, or 12.

  6. Most of our students will graduate with 100 credits. • 32 in Grade 10 (8 courses x 4 credits ) • 32 in Grade 11 (8 courses x 4 credits ) • 32 in Grade 12 (8 courses x 4 credits ) • 4 credits: Graduation Transitions • TOTAL = 100 credits

  7. KEY ASPECTS OF “Graduation Transitions” Education and Career Planning -Graduation Transitions plan Employability Skills -30 hours of work experience Personal Health -80 hours (if verified by Sept 30th) or 150 minutes per week Student Led Interview -completed on April 8, 2009

Passport to Education • Number of stamps based on size of school • Grade 12 stamp is valued at $500 • Canadian citizen or permanent resident • Awarded based on top 5 academic courses • Student must graduate • September following graduation student will receive a letter from Moscrop to come and pick up Passport Stamp

  12. Provincial Scholarship Program • Canadian citizen or permanent resident • Minimum final mark of ‘B’ in English 12 • 86% or higher on three provincial examinations • Must graduate • $1000 tuition voucher mailed in August following graduation • $2500 awarded if student ranks in the top 20 scholarship students • 2008 Moscrop Graduates earned 32 Provincial Scholarships

Dogwood District Awards • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident • Excellence in chosen non-academic field • 5 grade 11 or 12 courses in one of four focus areas: • Fine Arts • Applied Skills • Physical Activity • Second Language • Student plans to pursue study in the focus area • Priority given to students attending college career programs • $500 cash award and $500 tuition voucher mailed to student in October following graduation • 2008 Graduates-16 Dogwood Awards

Apprenticeship Scholarships • Must be registered as a Youth Apprentice with the Industry Training Authority • Must graduate • Maintenance of a C+ average in grade 12 course work • Completion of 16 credits of Ministry Authorized SSA courses (480 hours of paid workplace training) • Submission of application within three months following graduation • Must continue to work or train in the trade for 5 months post graduation

Entrance Scholarships • Two major types: • Basic • Based on marks only and calculated automatically • Major Entrance • Comprehensive Application • Must apply • Involves marks and extracurricular (community, leadership…) • Written Presentation • References • Check institution websites for: • Additional scholarships available • Financial Aid information

  16. External Scholarships • Local, provincial, national • Individual criteria based on award • Check *websites, employer, associations • A few are sent to the school, but many are community based • * =handout available to begin your search

Internal (School-based) Scholarships • District and School Scholarships and Awards • Application Process at Moscrop • Student Profile must be completed by Oct 12/08 • Review the student bulletin and Scholarship Bulletin Board regularly • Apply by the deadline(s) • Scholarship committee meets to review applicants • Selection of best candidate to win award or compete in District for chance to win award • School-based scholarships are awarded at the School Leaving Ceremony in June 2009

Miscellaneous • Students must have a Social Insurance Number (or apply now) • Reference letters are very important • Both substance and style of application is important • Spend time completing and reviewing application (resume, essays, letters) • Inform me by email in the Spring if your child has won an award/scholarship

  21. GENERAL UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: • English 11 Social Studies 11 • Math 11 (Principles) Academic Science 11 • Second language 11 (Beginners Lang. OK at SFU) • English 12 • PLUS 3 Provincially Examinable Courses • Be sure to check the SPECIFIC COURSE AND MARK requirements of specific faculties or programs • English Language Requirements vary –TOEFL and/or LPI may be required

CALCULATION OF ADMISSION AVERAGE is based on 4 courses UBC: English 12 + 3 provincially examinable Gr 12 SFU: English 12 + 3 provincially examinable Gr 12 UVIC: English 12 + 3 provincially examinable Gr 12 MoscropProvincially Examinable courses: Math, History, Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, French/Langue Seconde, Spanish, Mandarin, Japanese, AP Courses

  23. Each faculty in each university has different requirements………. For example: SFU FACULTY OF SCIENCE REQUIREMENTS • English 11 • Social Studies 11 • Math 11:Principles-70% (60%-69%:numeracy course) • Beginners Language 11 • Chemistry 11 • Physics 11 • English 12 • Math 12 (Principles) • Science 12 • Science 12 • **UBC –one Science 12 plus one other provincial exam 12 Recent admission average - Sciences: 80% for SFU & 86% for UBC Recent admission average – Arts: 80% for SFU & 82% for UBC Acceptable Science 12 courses: Biology 12, Chemistry 12, Physics 12 (Geography 12for SFU)

Community Colleges and University Colleges • Types of Programs • Career Programs • 1 year Certificates • 2 year Diplomas • University Transfer Programs • Complete 1 or 2 years of university at college level • Must complete at least 30 credits with sufficient GPA • Undergraduate Degree Programs • University Colleges offer Undergraduate degrees in a variety of programs

VOCATIONAL PROGRAMS • Programs vary in length from a few weeks to two years: • Certificates • Diploma and Post Diploma programs • Some programs lead to a designated trade and to eventual completion of a full apprenticeship. • Technology Programs generally two to three years in length – BCIT now offers a Bachelor of Technology Degree • BCIT TRADES TRAINING PROGRAMS • Aviation Drafting • Marine Electronics • Mechanics Metal Work • Construction Manufacturing/Industrial
