  1. Interpretive/Rhythmic Dance: TINIKLING By Travis Van Huisen

  2. What is Tinikling? • The tinikling dance is one of the most popular and well-known of traditional Philippine dances. The tinikling is a pre-Spanish dance from the Philippines that involves two people beating, tapping, and sliding bamboo poles on the ground and against each other in coordination with one or more dancers who step over and in between the poles in a dance. • Instead of Bamboo poles, the students use pvc pipes and 2x4’s to hit the pvc pipe on.

  3. Benefits of Tinikling • Objectives: • To work cooperatively with peers during tinikling activity. • To perform locomotor movements to rhthym. • To hear changes in musical accompaniment and move accordingly. • To build cultural awareness. To develop coordination, body control, and teamwork skills.

  4. Interactive Learning • Here is a video of a class learning all 5 steps of Tinikling. This will be used to introduce the dance and demonstrate to the students how to perform all 5 steps in sequential order. • http://vimeo.com/15776029

  5. Learning Contd… • Students will watch each dance step first and then split up into their groups and practice the dance steps that were seen in the video in the sequential order provided by the dance instructor. This will allow my students to see how the dance steps are supposed to be performed and then actually perform each dance themselves.
