  2. What is Main Idea??? • Main idea is the main focus for an article or passage. • In order to find the main idea, you need to focus on what the article is mostly talking about. • Main idea is always backed up with details and facts about it. • Also the passage would show examples to help identify what the main idea is.

  3. How do I find the Main idea?? • In order to find the main idea, you have to look at the intro to the passage, what the passage talks about, or the conclusion sentence. • These sentences have the main idea within them. • Or they have clues and facts to help you figure out the main idea.

  4. Lets try one!

  5. The French Revolution, which began in 1789, ended the control of France by monarch and aristocracy, and launched the era of middle- class control. Business and financial leaders maintained their power even after a counter- revolution restored the monarchy in 1814. Although It regained its status and even some privilege, the aristocracy no longer dominated the affairs of the country. Which of the following best tells what the passage is about? A- The history of the French Revolution. B- The causes and results of the French Revolution. C- The end of the monarchy in France as a result of the French Revolution. D- Middle- class power as an outcome of the French Revolution. E- Revolution and counter- revolution.

  6. The answer is D • A- A is incorrect because the passage explains the results of the French Revolution. It does not explain the events leading up to the French Revolution. • B- B is incorrect because the passage says nothing about the causes of the French Revolution. • C- C is an acceptable answer, but it only talks about the monarchy, this is why D is a better choice. • E- E is just a wrong answer because the passage talks about more than the counter revolution. • Though D is correct because it is both accurate and it answers the question using the information given in the text.
