  1. My Unknown Sport:Octopush By: Allison James Division 2

  2. Introduction: The sport I chose is called Octopush. It is commonly known as Underwater Hockey. This sport is most common in the United Kingdom. Many divers love to play Underwater Hockey because it combines two very popular sports: hockey and diving/snorkelling. To play this sport you need a stick, a puck, 20 people, a pool, and spectators.

  3. History: Underwater Hockey was invented in 1954 be Alan Blake and was first played by himself and other divers such as John Ventham, Jack Willis, and Frank Lilleke, in the Eastney Swimming Pool. The first torment came to Canada in 1952.

  4. How to Play: • Create two teams of ten, but only six players play at once. The four others stay on the deck of the pool. • Place a puck in the middle of a pool, and line up the teams above the goals on the walls on either side. (The goal are on the ground.) • Score by shooting the puck into each others goal. The puck sides along the bottom of the pool. You can pass the puck by placing your stick against the puck and flick your wrist. • Play zones. Have three forward players and three back defensive players. The forwards pass the puck and attempt to score. The back defensive players block the opposing forwards to try to prevent them from scoring. They also can take away the puck and gain possession. Unlike ice hockey, there are no goalkeepers. • Restart play after each goal. Players once again line up over their goals, and someone places the puck the middle. Rotate substitutes as needed, but any player not involved in play must be outside the playing area, either inside or outside the pool. • Divide the game into two 5-to-10 minute halves, with a short interval between halves. At the tournament level, halves are 15 minutes each.
