  2. ABOUT THE HISTORY • The history of this day is not totally clear. • The closest point in time that can be identified as the beginning of this tradition was in 1582 in France. • Prior to that year, the new year was celebrated for eight days, beginning on March 25 and culminated on April 1.

  3. With the reform of the calendar under Charles IX, New Year was moved to January 1. • Communication in this time was very slow between countries. • Some population continued to celebrate the new year on April 1 then. • They were object of ridicule and the butt of jokes.

  4. AND WHAT TO DO… • Scottland – two day of celebrating, pranks involving the posterior of the body- it´s called Taily Day. • France – April Fish – to stick a paper fish on the back of another person without being noticed.
