  22. Vehicle Inspection Bylaws Vehicle must comply with standards • An owner or broker shall not permit the operation and no driver shall operate a Livery vehicle unless the Livery vehicle is free of the defects listed in the Livery Vehicle Inspection Standard. When vehicle fails to comply • When a Livery Vehicle is found to be in a condition that fails to comply with the Livery Vehicle Inspection Standard: • if the defect is of such a nature that it is a potential risk to continued safe vehicle operation, as defined in the Livery Vehicle Inspection Standard, have the defect repaired within a period not to exceed 14 days; or, • if the defect is of such a nature that it is a more serious safety concern that can deteriorate quickly, as defined in the Livery Vehicle Inspection Standard, have the defect repaired within a period not to exceed 24 hours; or, • if the defect is a serious defect that risks safe vehicle operation, as defined in the Livery Vehicle Inspection Standard, immediately cease operation as a Livery Vehicle and have the defect repaired; or, • if the defect is such an imminent safety hazard that continued vehicle operation is prohibited, as defined in the Livery Vehicle Inspection Standard, immediately cease operation of the Livery Vehicle until the defect is repaired. Vehicle Inspection Bylaws Continued Offences for operating unsafe vehicles • Any driver who operates and any owner or broker who permits the operation of a vehicle with a defect that a serious defect that risks safe vehicle operation, as defined in the Livery Vehicle Inspection Standard, or a defect that is such an imminent safety hazard that continued vehicle operation is prohibited, as defined in the Livery Vehicle Inspection Standard is guilty of an offence. Order vehicle inspection • If there are reasonable grounds to believe that a Livery Vehicle is being operated in a condition that fails to comply with the Livery Vehicle Inspection Standard, an <<officer>> may order the Livery Vehicle to undergo an inspection carried out in accordance with the Livery Vehicle Inspection Standard at a Vehicle Inspection Station licensed in accordance with the requirements of Division 5. Vehicle Inspection Bylaws Continued Periodic inspection required • An owner or broker shall not permit the operation and no driver shall operate a Livery vehicle unless the Livery vehicle carries proof of successfully passing an inspection carried out in accordance with the Livery Vehicle Inspection Standard at a Vehicle Inspection Station licensed in accordance with the requirements of Division 5, within the preceding 6 months. Driver to inspect vehicle • A driver of a Livery Vehicle shall complete an inspection of the vehicle for the presence of defects listed in the Livery Vehicle Inspection Standard before operating the Livery Vehicle. • Upon discovery of any defect listed in the Livery Vehicle Inspection Standard, a driver shall report the defect to the owner of the Livery Vehicle and the Broker.
