  1. news•let•ter – (n) - to present information to employees, contributors and the like: The Pure Source Recruitment Newsletter > Hello to all Pure Source Recruitment Temps & Candidates, I’m writing this on a very chilly Thursday afternoon. Winter has well and truly arrived – the air con switch has been flicked to heat, the staff fridge is stocked with soup and I’m about to send out a “who wants hot chocolate?” shout. In this month’s candidate news I tackle the delicate subject of not being able to fully commit to a temp assignment you’ve already committed to. I hope that the article comes across in the way it is intended – as a positive look of how we as consultants can help you manage temp work whilst managing everything else (including job hunting) that you have in your lives. I appreciate any thoughts and comments you may have. If you have been on our Facebook page lately you will see our latest post “What do tea, toast and temps have in common?”. Pure Source Recruitment has partnered with Baked Relief. If you don’t already know, Baked Relief is the brainchild of Danielle Crismani who set up this not for profit organisation that thanks to the power of social media became a nationwide phenomenon. Baked Relief is essentially about supporting those who were (and still are) affected by the devastation of the Queensland floods. Our involvement? We are providing some much needed kitchen tea relief for families in the Lockyer Valley. Many of them now have the absolute basics but a tea pot and a sandwich maker (who wouldn’t want a toastie and a cup of tea during the cool weather?) aren’t items high on the priority list for them to go out and buy. So…. We are calling for donations of brand new tea pots and sandwich makers. For more information go to our website www.puresource.com.au or if you already know you can help call us on 3846 7730. 2. news•let•ter – (n) - to present information to employees, contributors and the like: The Pure Source Recruitment Newsletter > The long and short of short term temp assignments and commitment… This is an article about commitment, it’s a tricky one for me to write (not because I’m commitment-phobic) but because it might challenge some of you and so let me start off by saying that before you fire off an email of dissent, hear me out… There can be any number of reasons why our clients enlist the services of a temp – to cover annual leave, sick leave, to manage specific projects or to assist with a high volume of workload – whatever the requirement it stands to reason that the key factor for a successful temp placement is that the temp can indeed fulfill the needs of the client. Straight forward really. I’ll start by saying that of course everyone gets sick and this time of the year is notorious for the early morning phone calls from temps unable to go to work. Our office certainly hasn’t been immune to this and at one stage everyone should have had shares in Kleenex. Calling in sick is normal and often encouraged – share and share aren’t alike when it comes to flu season. Nothing is more important than your health, end of story. The challenge tends to arise when temps need time off to take the cat to the vet for an annual check up or to go to a job interview. Don’t hit that send button yet – I have a cat (actually said Cat owns me but that’s a whole other story) and my job is to send people on interviews all day long. Heaven knows I’d never jeapordise Gypsy’s health because the filing is piling up. Our responsibility and aim is to juggle it all so that you don’t miss out on the dream job interview and the cat doesn’t skip on her annual check up. But the thing is we can’t juggle what we don’t know about and that’s the core issue here. At Pure Source Recruitment we like to think we are a friendly and approachable bunch so please know that we are here to sort this stuff out for you and help you manage it all. We won’t automatically discount you for a temp assignment just because you’ve got things to do, it just helps if we know about it. Call us, email us and most importantly talk to us. We are so grateful to work with a great team of temporary employees and we genuinely appreciate the relationships we’ve established with you all. We hope you know that we see you as a part of an extension of us. Continued…

  3. …..Under the RCSA Code of Conduct a Recruitment Agency cannot prevent you from obtaining work from other sources and this includes preventing you from attending job interviews. Again it is a matter of communication. We are lucky in that many of our clients understand the need to be flexible and just this week a client of mine volunteered to do an interview at 7.30am so that the temp didn’t miss out on getting to her assignment on time and consequently miss out on an hour’s pay. This isn’t always possible so that’s why we’ll always do what we can to schedule interviews for our candidates at a time that suits everyone. Our commitment to you is that we’ll listen to your concerns, we’ll juggle what we can, we’ll be flexible and understanding. We too have to handle the personal stuff that requires time off and I am the first person to send someone home when they look like they should be wrapped up in a blanket with a cup of tea in hand. I can imagine when you are so keen to get some temp cash in that not mentioning that you are heading down the coast for the weekend and need the afternoon off is appealing but it’s better if we know about it. Let me preface all of this by saying that it is different for longer term assignments. We have many temps who are in ongoing and long term assignments, working full 38 hour weeks and so personal appointments and the car needing a service is just part of life and we all know that you’ll need a full day off to wait for the plumber to arrive. That’s not what this is about. Committing to a temp assignment to work on Reception for one week and needing a half day off in the middle of the week becomes more troublesome. The thing is, depending on the client’s requirements everything is up for discussion and we are always happy to look at every situation individually. Life matters most and we too have families and cats. Tracey Montgomery

  5. a•ward • to give as due or merited; assign or bestow: Temporary Staff Member Awards > • On a regular basis we like to acknowledge the efforts of some of our temporary team members • where client feedback has been exceptional. We truly appreciate all of our temps and the work that they • do but this quarter we’d like to make special mention to the following temps: • Laura Fitzalan – In between juggling her complex study schedule to become a Doctor, Laura manages to continue to temp for us and has done so on and off over the last 3 years. The client feedback is consistently exceptional and most recently a client commented that Laura was quite simply the most efficient temp they’d ever had . • Amy Griffin - In Brisbane on a working holiday, Amy is getting the chance for plenty of work. What started out as a three week assignment has now exceeded 3 months and due to Amy’s positive attitude, willingness and quality of work it looks like she’ll be on the same assignment for the full 6 months. Thanks Amy! • Frances Hale - Frances is always willing to take that early morning wake up call when we have what we refer to as a “same day” booking. Our clients speak highly of her professionalism and her ability to always step in and hit the ground running. • Lino Serioza – Since October last year Lino has been travelling from Coomera to South Brisbane to attend work and we appreciate his constant reliability and willingness to be so flexible. • Thank you Laura, Amy, Frances and Lino. As a small token of our appreciation you will receive a double pass to the movies from all of us at Pure Source Recruitment.
