  1. Yazd The pearl of desert

  2. One of the oldest, largest and most charming desert cities, lies somewhere in the middle of Iran, in the middle of ancient silk road. It is so beautiful that people call it "the pearl of desert". Este considerat atât de frumos încât locuitorii l-au supranumit „perla deşertului” Recognized by UNESCO as holding one of the oldest architecture all over the world

  3. Because of its remote desert location and the difficulty of approach, Yazd had remained largely immune to large battles and the destruction and ravages of war. For instance, it was a haven for those fleeing from destruction in other parts of Persia during the invasion of Genghis Khan. It was visited by Marco Polo in 1272 who remarked on the city's fine silk-weaving industry.

  4. Arab conquest of Persia:  Many Zarathushtis were massacred, many were forced to convert to Islam, some escaped to safe havens in Iran and some fled to other countries, ranging from China and India in the East to Central Europe in the West.

  5. The number of Zoroastrians in the world today is about 200,000, with the highest concentrations in the 'homelands' of Iran (24,000 - 90,000) and India (70,000). In the past half century, Zarathushtis have emigrated around the world, seeking higher education and better opportunities.

  6. The whole city is made out of clay and adobe; it seems that it has risen out of sand. Yazd's architecture is unique. During its long history, Yazd and Yazdies have adapted themselves to the desert surrounding.

  7. People are still living in their Old Persian traditions.

  8. Yazd is the capital of Yazd Province, and a centre of Zoroastrian culture. The city is located 270 km southeast of Isfahan. At the 2006 census, the population was 423,006, in 114,716 families. situated at an oasis where the Dasht-e Kavir desert and the Dasht-e Lut desert meet, the city is sometimes called "the bride of the Kavir" because of its location, in a valley between Shir Kuh, the tallest mountain in the region at 4075 m. above sea level, and Kharaneq. The city itself is located at 1203 m. above sea-level, and covers 16,000 km².

  9. Residential quarters appear almost deserted because of the high walls, which shield the houses from the narrow and labyrinthine alleys scattered around the town

  10. Built in 12th century and still being in use, Jameh mosque of Yazd is an example of finest Persian mosaics and excellent architecture. Its minarets are the highest in the country. Minaretele sale sunt cea mai înalte din ţară Architecturally, the Yazd mosque, with its innovative hall on either side of the main chamber, set a style. The influence of this mosque reappeared in Central Asia, because Tamerlane, sparing the town (a rare example of clemency on the part of Tamerlane), took famous architects and tile-makers from Yazd to build his dream city, Samarkand.
