  2. Mission and Organizers Mission • EchoTaps will bring together ~ 700 buglers to form a line between two national cemeteries located 41 miles apart. The bugler will play the the Final Military Honor - Taps Organizers • Local veterans and family members concerned about preserving appropriate Military Funeral Services • Bugles Across America - Finger Lakes Chapter

Background • Over 1,800 veterans pass away everyday • Most do not receive the minimum final burial honors - two soldiers to fold the American Flag and a bugler to play Taps • In most cases, Taps is provided via a tape recording. Taps should be played by a live bugler • Bugles Across America organized in 1990 to • provide buglers for Military Burial Services • preserve the tradition of playing Tapsfor deceased veterans • provide a better understand of the significance ofTaps and the importance of these simple but solemn musical notes to our veterans and their families

Objectives • Honor and Remember the American Soldier • Provide a Common Bond for veterans and their families during a time of mourning • Raise awareness of our National Cemeteries and the need for live buglers to play Taps • Preserve the Traditionof Playing Taps. The most recognizable musical symbol of final Military Honor in America • Foster a new generation of buglers • Establish a World Record for the number of buglers playing Taps - in an echo format - between two points

Date & Route • May 21, 2005 • Start @ Woodlawn National Cemetery – Elmira NY • Secondary roads • Routes 352 and 415 • Through the heart of the communities • End @ Bath National Cemetery – Bath NY • 41 mile distance • Currently have enough buglers to cover 25 miles Bath VA National Cemetery Bath, NY Savona Campbell Coopers Woodlawn National Cemetery Elmira, NY Painted Post Big Flats Riverside Corning

  12. Remaining Funds • Remaining funds will be donated to Bugles Across America, a nationwide organization dedicated to playing the final Military Honors of Taps for our veterans • Funds used to purchase instruments for beginning players • Funds will be used in our local area
