  1. Creating an Online Orientation • Jamine Hamner

  2. What is the cost of Live Orientation – Tangible Costs? • Who leads the Orientation? (Hourly Wage x 4 hours) • Who preps materials for orientation? (Hourly Wage x 2 hours) • Cost of materials • copies, • notebooks or folders, • hourly wage of print shop staff, etc. • Cost of catering • What else?

  3. What is the cost of Live Orientation? Example: • Leader: $20 x 4 hours = $80 • Staff: $15 x 2 hours = $30 • Notebooks: $3 each x 5 attendees = $15 • Copies: $.03 x 40 pages x 5 attendees = $6 • Catering: $30 TOTAL: $131 x 12 times a year = $1572

  4. What is the cost of Live Orientation – Intangible Cost? How many times has this happened? You have your monthly orientation on the 10th. A new potential volunteer shows up a day or two later and now you tell them they have to wait almost 4 weeks until they can proceed. Did you lose them because of the long lead time?

  5. But I Don’t Want to Give Up My Live Orientation! • That’s fine….what about a combination of online orientation and live orientation? • Would your live orientation be more interesting, engaging if you could spend less time on the tedious stuff?

  6. What Do I Need to Create an Online Orientation? • A website • A free website from the internet: type in “free websites” into any internet search engine. • A page on your hospital’s internet site • Depending on how your internet site is managed, it may or may not cost money for you to add items to your internet site.

  7. What Do I Need to Create an Online Orientation? • Your volunteer orientation handbook in electronic format • Not a great choice - Microsoft Word  • Great choice - PDF format  - WYSIWYG • Microsoft  Office 2010 has the added function of “Save As” a pdf. • Free pdf convertor online

  8. What Do I Need to Create an Online Orientation • Orientation forms • We all have agreements, tests, etc. that must be completed by the volunteer as part of his/her orientation. • You can choose to have the volunteer print, complete, and bring these forms (see previous slide) • OR you can choose to allow the volunteer to submit this information online.

  9. What Do I Need to Create an Online Orientation? • Optional: Online Hosted Forms • Your hospital website may already have the ability to create and host forms. Ask your IT department. • Hosted forms online can be EXPENSIVE!! • Formbuddy.com • Mycontactform.com • Emailmeform.com • Formsmarts.com • 15 Nice Solutions for Fee Contact Form Services
