Element of the day • 83 – Bismuth – Bi • The active ingredient in pepto-bismol is 57% bismuth by weight – interesting considering bismuth is sandwiched between two deadly elements. • Bismuth is the last stable element – No element past #83 has any stable isotopes. • Technically bismuth doesn’t have any stable isotopes, but Bi-209 has a half-life of a billion times longer than the age of the universe.
