  1. Existentialism

  2. conflicto (auto-reconocimiento)"predicament": cognito ergo agonizo (aware of self = potential to understand, self-create, and control > decision. Salto*existential leap: "moment of choice between nothingness (birth) to nothingness (death)“ protagonista existencialanti-hero: "the passive hero longing but unable to contrive some self-defining act" (Wille Lowman)

  3. (1) el individuo dentro de las masas (identidad ante las masas) [Kierkegaard] • el conflicto con "el sistema": • -- "the individual cannot be comprehended within in a rational system“ • b) -- "the universe which the individual confronts is absurd ..."

• "Other people are viewed not as they are but as intentional objects of my perceptions, my beliefs, my emotions" ... (You are how I perceive you to be). I on the other hand cannot be the same type of object since I am the "subject".

  6. (4) La libertad y la elección • "...it is Man's choices that bring whatever nature they have into being...“ • (a) la elección es ubiquo (ambos implícito y explícito): Dios, placer, ética • "Even if I do not choose, I have chosen not to choose.“ • (b) el criterio es subjetivo • (c) no hay explicación para los motivos de tales decisiones • "...if human actions can be causally explained then determinism is true..."

Sartre

  8. (6) el modo de expresarse • el conflicto de la independencia del narrador, personaje y lector (ante el escritor) • "...the reader has to make his own choices in the light of his own experiences.... existentialist writings do commonly argue with the reader...." • (a) hypothetical frame (inductive not. deductive logic) [Kierkegaard] • "If you choose this starting point then..." • (b) pseudonyms: rival standpoints rather than an author's cosmovision.
