Herschel PFM status • All units passed CDR, manufacturing well underway • Optical bench delivered • HTT delivered, most cryo-components, instrumentation, MLI integrated • HOT delivered instrumentation, cryo-components and MLI mounted. Tank integrated on framework. Both fully integrated • Cylinder thermal shields delivered-Others completed • CVV cylinder delivered-Upper and lower bulk head imminent. • Integration to be completed by May 2005; first cool-down with MTD instrument prior to shipment to ESTEC for STM campaign HIFI IQR - SCI-PT/33376

  7. Instrument Qualification Review - Objectives Ref: IQR Proceedings - v2 Aug 26, 2004 - SCI-PT/27108 • Confirmation of instrument CQM hardware/software qualification • Completion of instrument design verification • Assessment of performance and compliance with sci. reqs • Identification and confirmation of improvements for FM • Completion of OBSW design and demonstration of functionality • Confirmation of EGSE design and demonstration of functionality • Confirmation of instrument operability - User Manual HIFI IQR - SCI-PT/33376

  8. IQR - Proceedings Data Package – complete delivery at K.O. [HIFI] • Documents as identified in SCI-PT/27108 • Presentations as given during the K.O. meeting Review of Data Package [Board] • Discrepancies and open issues raised as RIDs • RIDs issued up to one week before co-location Answersto RIDs [HIFI] • Provided, discussed and resolved at co-location Board Report = Result of the three items above [Board] HIFI IQR - SCI-PT/33376

  11. HIFI IQR K.O. – Agenda / Morning HIFI IQR - SCI-PT/33376

  12. HIFI IQR K.O. – Agenda / Afternoon HIFI IQR - SCI-PT/33376

  13. First Impressions 1 • Qualification status of the complete instrument-missing elements, ICU, LSU… • Limited CQM. FM 1A and B built and in spec. Band 2a and b ready for cold test and cover band. 3a and 3 b QM 30ghz hole.High roll off. Updated design: Simulation results show that good recovery. Warm tests planned soon. • 4a and 4b 1 simulation OK. • JPL 5a and 5b delivered but not accepted. Band 6 beginning of May. Extra Spare wafer run for Band 6-Risk. • Proof of pudding in the eating at instrument level • Replacing diplexers for beam splitters, higher power for 6,5,3. HIFI IQR - SCI-PT/33376

  14. First Impression 2 • Mixer performances. MU-1 QM achieved sensitivity. MU-2 FM good performance Noise temp v I/F excellent. Band 3 and Band 4 top 0.5Ghz unusable. Coupling between substrate and horn block, EMC gasket. Maybe cannot be fixed, modifications being tried . • MU-5 no FM performance yet. • All delivery of FM mixers by end April.Any further iterations on FS to keep delivery. • Improvement in CTH mixers-baseline now. • IF-1 OK, IF-2 QM’s OK. Low better. • Noise and gain budget OK. Frequency resolution all bands compliant. • Power stability, spectrometers OK. ILT QM on short scales compliant. Spectroscopy Allen variance needs to be assessed no numbers yet calculated. • HRS linearity marginally compliant and WBS worse and non-compliant. Software correction can be applied. HIFI IQR - SCI-PT/33376

  15. First Impression 3 • ILT QM missing tests:Beam pattern, frequency response test, no LSU, Gas cell no time. • Standing wave test LO-FPU performed. Stability times. Standing wave at telescope level. • ILT’s Full analysis not yet fully available. • ICU/OBS problematic in ILT, ICU unstable.Existing functionality not yet tested and functionality not yet implemented. • ICU not used for LO command/manual command worked OK. ICU cannot be used to control LO until ICU SW/HW fixed. • Mixer magnet short detected • Changes QM to FM. Change diplexers to beam splitter 3,5,6. HIFI IQR - SCI-PT/33376

  16. First Impression 4 • Budgets IID-B 3.2 is valid one- Few CR’s in Place • Mass within spec/ with new allocation. • OBSW-No presentation and chain effect on instrument operation. • Make list of items that are not at qualification status. • PA Parts stress/Worse Case Analysis • FPGA NCR’s/NRB on HRS • FPGA New procurement spec sent out to all HIFI sub-systems. 10 nanosecond rise/fall time introduced in issue B. • HSIA not yet included in the data package. • FDIR/FMECA- Dedicated error detection mechanism implemented. No HIFI error requires CDMU support. • User manual needs some update/when will it be updated ? HIFI IQR - SCI-PT/33376

  17. First Impression 5 • VCD updated since DRB, now issue 2. • Good approach to verification. • FCU/LSU are PFM level units • FCU software in data package. • List of items qualified or not- Qualification status. LSU PFM+DM, B/B shown good result. FU has DM 2. • ICU still unknown to HIFI • LOU/LCU qualification to be completed • FPU QM but IF2, choppers and diplexers need deltas. Cryo-vibration. IF2 vibration completed by end of Feb. • Internal QR already started 17th January 2005. • Minutes updated with document numbers eventually, first issue to be immediately included. HIFI IQR - SCI-PT/33376

  18. First Impression 6 • Major NCR’s HIFI bit flip. FPGA breakdown, HRS temperature NCR?. Wrap up-on FPGA issue February. • Materials and Processes in good situation. • Parts Approval backlog, however new personnel. • Documentation/Data package organized as IQR procedure. • IHDR RIDS and status. Scientific performance documentation . Nick will put this into a document. • IHDR LO qualification approach end February KW. • HSIA 2nd April 2005. • Co-location 8th, 9th March. HIFI IQR - SCI-PT/33376

  19. First Impression 7 • ICU moving on critical path, LSU delivery dates 1st April to SRON. 1st November FM. • 90 days HIFI Testing FPU (47 w/o LO). Delivery 1st April 2006 to ESTEC. • Detailed schedule of MPI needs to be studied/Overall planning needs to be reviewed again. HIFI IQR - SCI-PT/33376
