  4. Task 4: Make a documentary In a group of 3, make a documentary about: • Life at KAC • A campus-related problem/issue

  5. Task 4: Make a documentary Make sure that you are specific about your topic. i.e., What aspect of “KAC life” will you focus on?

  6. Task 4: Make a documentary What the documentary must include: - Narration by one or more group members. - Interviews with at least one group member and one other person (non-group member). - Images and video taken by your group. - Text (i.e., names of interviewees, titles, credits, etc.) - You can also use music as well (Avoid sound effects)

  7. Task 4: Make a documentary Length: 6 – 10 minutes. Video Editing: You may use any video editing software you are comfortable with. - Windows Movie Maker (Windows Live Movie Maker) is the default on most computers.  There is a tutorial on this program on the website.

  8. Task 4: Make a documentary Content & Organization: - Overall, your documentary should tell a clear story. i.e., “although life at KAC is difficult, the students still have fun, everyday.” Careful planning is key here!

  9. Task 4: Make a documentary Evaluation: Narration/Language Use - Appropriate language used. - Language used is clear and makes sense(grammar, pronunciation, intonation, etc.). - Matches with the visuals.

  10. Task 4: Make a documentary Evaluation: Organization: - The contents of the documentary are understandable. - Flows logically from beginning to end. - Stays on subject (doesn’t go too far off topic).

  11. Task 4: Make a documentary Evaluation: Value: - Shows an understanding of the subject. - Effectively communicates the message of the documentary.

  12. Task 4: Make a documentary Evaluation: Technical: - Sounds are audible. - Narration is at an appropriate volume. - Pictures and videos are clear. - The finished product is free of technical problems (distortions, missing clips, etc).

  13. Sample Documentary http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Bpe2cfu-5M

  14. Sample Documentary Consider: -What was the message of this documentary? - Was the documentary effective in telling its story? - What were the strong points of the documentary? - What were the weak points?

  15. Strong points Expert info Uses a real case (shopaholic) Good “flow” (smooth transition) “visualizes” the issue.

  16. Weak points Too many interviews Too little narration and too fast Not enough basic info (audience) Poor transitions Poor pace
