  1. Planning the Registration Process Via CPM Analysis Moueen K. Salameh, Registrar American University of Beirut Beirut, Lebanon

  2. Session Rules of Etiquette • Please turn off your cell phone/pager • If you must leave the session early, please do so as discreetly as possible • Please avoid side conversation during the session Thank you for your cooperation!

  3. Planning the Registration Process Management of big projects that consist of a large number of activities poses complex problems in planning, scheduling and control especially when the project activities have to be performed in a special technological sequence.

  4. With the help of CPM (Critical Path Method), the project Manager can plan the project ahead of time and foresee possible sources of trouble and delay in completion.

  5. The Registrar’s Office at the American University of Beirut defined the registration process as a project by identifying the registration activities, defining the precedence relationships among them, estimating their time durations, determining the resources and work units in charge, and computing the optimum project time schedule or plan to be implemented. Each process was described as a flow chart showing all the elements involved, and linked to the Registration

  6. PROJECT PLANNING A project is a set of activities that are interrelated by a certain logical precedence relationship.

  7. Elements of the Project Planning process • Define project objectives. (Description of what is to be accomplished) • Identify activities. • Establish precedence relationships. (which activities come first, which follow, and so on) • Make time estimates. • Determine the resources and work units • Determine the project schedule or plan.
