(3 copies) • Basic Eukarya and Cells Overview. • Student cell-model presentations then complete 1st page of in-class exercise. • Examination of 4 wet-mount slides and 2 prepared slides. • The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks TBL. • Gather antibiotic plate data. • Complete 1st page of in-class assignment. • Sketch plant cultures. • Discuss Independent project w/ instructor.

  2. Cell Structure Comparison Bacteria

  3. Eukaryotic Cell Processes MEIOSIS (one 2n cell becomes four 1n cells) MITOSIS (make more of same ploidy) 2n 2n 2n 2n 1n 1n 1n 1n FERTILIZATION - two 1n cells fuse to become one 2n cell

  4. eukaryotic cells (nucleus, etc.) Eukaryote Phylogeny Chrom- alveolata Amoebozoa Excavata Animalia Rhizaria Plantae Fungi most protozoans, brown algae, & water “molds”

  5. Bacterial Cell (protein & nucleic acid) (nucleic acid) NO nucleus NO organelles e (contains peptidoglycan) (lipid bilayer with embeded proteins) (mostly H2O)
