  1. SNOWMEN Written & Illustrated by Prairie Kids

  2. On a sunny Saturday morning a little boy came and picked me up and started rolling me into three separate balls. First he put the biggest ball on the bottom, then a medium sized one on top of the big one, and last a small one on top. He put eyes on my head and sun glasses over top of my eyes. The boy put a hat on my head. He put a soft white scarf around my neck and two tree branches for arms. Then he ran into the house and came out with a brand new red snowboard in his arms. The little boy put the snowboard under my feet and said , “Perfect.” Then he sped to the house and had a long cup of hot cocoa.

  3. One warm winter afternoon a little girl came skipping out the door and off the porch to play. She had light blue eyes and long bond hair that bounced when she skipped. The little girl kept skipping until she got to the middle of the yard. She stopped and felt the snow. It was sticky. That’s when she built me, gentle white, me. She found two small rocks beside the fence and stuck them in my head for eyes. Then the little girl skipped back to the house and came back out with a carrot and she stuck it a little under my eyes for a nose. She took off her scarf and wrapped it around the space between my head and my middle. Then she took her hat off her head and put it on mine. (It was made of a pair of jeans and it had a flower on it.) She ran to the fence to see if there were more rocks. There were three. She picked them up and put them down my middle for buttons. But, I didn’t look right so she skipped into her house and got a red wig with braids and put it under my hat. The little girl played around me all afternoon. The next day I started melting and the little girl tried and tried to stand me up, but the snow wasn’t sticky enough so she stopped. She sat on the step crying as I melted away.

  4. Then Charlie yelled triumphantly “How about making a big snowman, a strange snowman, a weird snowman!” “YEAH!” screamed George, Alex, Andrew, Xavier and Lucy at once. “Okay let’s get to work!” Charlie and Lucy worked on the bottom, Alex and Andrew did the torso while Xavier and George made the head. Once everyone was done their part they put me all together. I must have been four feet tall and three feet wide. I had twigs from a tree that still had green leaves. I had a big brown toque. Wild rice for a mouth. I had buttons of jewelry. I had a pinecone for a nose and a blue scarf. The kids had built me on top of a toboggan they had. It was too small, but there I was finished, done, and that’s the story of me Weird Goof the Snowman. It was a melting warm winter day when I, the snowman, came into being. The snow was very puffy and it looked liked a blanket. A perfect day to build a snowman! First the children Charlie, Lucy, George, Alex, Andrew, and Xavier had to decide how big they were going to make me!

  5. I looked down and saw a boy. I watched a boy roll up three balls and stack them biggest from smallest. He picked up two light blue berries and stuck them on the top ball right across from each other. Underneath the two berries he put one orange carrot. At the bottom of the top ball he tied a blue and gold scarf. Next he stuck two branches in the middle ball. He put a C.D. player shaped figure on what looked like a snowman’s arm. I sure hope the snowman likes music. Then he took what looked like the part of earmuffs that go on top of your head and stuck a fluff balls on each end so they looked like headphones. He placed the figure on top of the smallest ball. After he connected the C.D shaped figure to the headphone shaped figure with a shoelace. Then he went inside and I who still wanted my snow back crawled on top and fell asleep. I was sleeping soundly in the snow when I started to roll and the snow around my tiny squirrel body started to form a huge round ball. I quickly jumped out of the ball and ran up a tree.

  6. I was built on Saturday the worst day of my life. Know why it was the worst? Because my head fell off that day. It really did. This is how it happened. First but not the worst the kid built my body. He rolled it and rolled it and rolled it until it was up to his chinney chin, chin. Then he started to make the middle of me. He made the middle of me a little smaller than the bottom. After that he added some buttons and arms. He put gloves on my arms. Next he made my head and put on a toque with white puffy stuff on it [I think they’re called pompoms]. Then he put on two eyes, a nose and a scarf. But that’s when it happened. The kid’s sister came along and punched me in the head for no reason at all and it fell off. Luckily the kid caught it and put it back on and I lived for another few days. But that is another story.

  7. One day I was watching kids play hockey on the frozen pond. I was rolled into three separate balls by a young girl, a small one, a large one, and an in between one. Then she placed each ball on top of each other from biggest to smallest. She gave me a denim shirt with a flower design and a blue and gold coat with silver fringes on the sleeves. She put a carrot nose on me and eyes too. Then she put sunglasses over top of them. She put a pair of blue mitts on my head. She put a bright pink scarf on my neck and red flower earrings that matched. I was thinking, “Is she going to leave me bald?” Just then she put some red hair on my head. I spent the rest of the day standing happily in the sun.

  8. I was flying south for the winter when I saw a big white snowman in a big farmyard. He had a blue Toronto Maple Leaf hat and a pair of earmuffs. He also had a carrot nose and a huge smile. His arms were made of sticks. On his stomach were two bright buttons. I kept on flying south for the winter, I saw all sorts of snowmen everywhere and they were all different. But the one I liked the best was the first one I saw in the big farmyard.

  9. . I was made yesterday and today was the worst day of my two day life. A boy and a girl (I don’t know their names) started making me. But right when the girl reached out for me …… PLOP! Off with my head! It went rolling down the street. I just got a glimpse of a car! But the boy saved me. He put my head back on. And got me a raccoon hat ( so lame). Then he gave me a scarf. Now I felt a little better. Then the buttons. Now I’m Frosty the Snowman, only on the cool side. Then the boy and girl walked away into their house. That’s when I saw it, the sun. Well this is the end of the story and the end of me.Squshhhh.
