  1. Mt. 19:30

  2. THINGS CHILDREN SHOULD KNOW I. “YOU GET WHAT YOU GET AND YOU DON’T PITCH A FIT.” a. Contentment – don’t be picky 1. Mind to be rich = trouble (1 Tim. 6:6-10) 2. Murmuring (1 Cor. 10:10-11) b. Self-control (2 Pet. 1:6, 9) Life is not about getting everything we want. It is about getting to heaven.

  3. THINGS CHILDREN SHOULD KNOW II. “BE GIVING, CHARITABLE, MERCIFUL.” a. Think of others (Legos & Mt. 7:12) b. Don’t assume they did it on purpose… (1 Cor. 13:7; 1 Tim. 6:4) c. Don’t hold grudges (Luke 17:3-4) d. If we want mercy, we must show mercy Ex. Accept an apology! (Mt. 18:33) Life is not about dominating others. It is about submitting to God.

  4. THINGS CHILDREN SHOULD KNOW III. “DON’T PUT YOURSELF FIRST.” a. Don’t be bossy “They make much of you, but for no good purpose. They want to shut you out, that you may make much of them.” (Gal. 4:17 ESV) b. Don’t have fun at another’s expense (2 Tim. 3:2) Bully because bigger / stronger “At least I had my fun!” c. Be willing to give more than you get “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35)

  5. THINGS CHILDREN SHOULD KNOW III. “DON’T PUT YOURSELF FIRST.” d. Don’t make up rules as you go Condemn another but not self (Rom. 2:1-2) Jude 16 “These are murmurers and complainers, walking after their lusts (and their mouth speaks proud things), showing respect of persons to gain advantage.” f. Don’t take over what someone else is doing (2 Cor. 10:14-16; Romans 15:20). Life is not about being first in earthly things. It is about being humble before God (Mt. 19:30).

  6. THINGS CHILDREN SHOULD KNOW IV. “DON’T BE A PUSHOVER.” a. Older towards younger… Want them to be nice, but not a door mat! b. Better to take a wrong than do a wrong (Matt. 5:38-42; 1 Cor. 6:7-8). c. Does not mean you cannot seek justice (John 18:19-23; Acts 25:9-11). Ex. When someone rough houses and you don’t like it… ask them to stop. If they continue, walk away & look for someone in authority. d. When it comes to truth, we must stand firm (Jude 3; Eph. 6:13-20; 2 Tim. 3:12).

  7. THINGS CHILDREN SHOULD KNOW CONCLUSION: We are all children before God… 1 John 3:1 Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called children of God; and such we are. For this cause the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. 2 Beloved, now are we children of God, and it is not yet made manifest what we shall be. We know that, if he shall be manifested, we shall be like him; for we shall see him even as he is. 3 And every one that hath this hope set on him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. Therefore, let us make sure we live up to what God expects of us.
