What is a fuel cell? • A fuel cell is an electrochemical energy conversion device. • The fuel cell converts hydrogen and oxygen into water, and produces electricity in the process.
An inside look at the process. First the hydrogen molecule enters the fuel cell and is split into positive and negative ions… The electrons are filtered through a membrane and run through a wire to the electric motor and back… When the ions return to the fuel cell the H+ and O combine to make H2O how it works!
Advantages • Keeps the planet green. • Good mileage. 65 mpg • No green house effect • Avoid high gas prices and long lines when gas is cheap. • 8.8lb tank lasts 270 miles
Disadvantages • Not everyone is a millionaire • Few places sell Hydrogen fuel tanks • One wreck could blow up your car….hydrogen is VERY flammable
Pollution? I don’t think so! • Hydrogen powered cars use an absolutely non-polluting fuel and electric motor • The exhaust is actually so clean that you can drink it!!! WOW =] • electric car
