Honors Math Concepts Things we will be learning: • ´Algebraic Expressions & Integers • ´One-step equations • ´Multi-step equations • ´Decimals • ´Factors/Exponents/Fractions • ´Percent • ´Graphing • ´Angles, circles, reflections • ´Area/Volume • ´Right Triangles in Algebra • ´Probability • ´Polynomials (7x²y)

  5. “What does a typical math class look like for my child?” • Warm-Up • Questions on homework - although R/A is encouraged for homework help due to time limit • Notes • Activity/Partner/Independent Practice • Small Group Instruction – chance to work with me for extra help based on exit ticket results • Exit ticket

  6. “How does my child (or myself) access links to the team website, Canvas and the online textbook?” • Go to Newtown Middle School Home Page • Click on Staff • Click on Boisselle for my webpage • There you will find: • Links to canvas • My contact info • Link to the Team DNA website • Links to online textbooks • Syllabus • This powerpoint :)

  7. “What is Canvas and how do I get onto it?” It will contain: • That day’s notes, powerpoint, homework and links to extra help or practice Get to it by... • Newtown Middle School Home Page • Scroll down and on the left hand side click Canvas • https://councilrock.instructure.com/login/ldap • student username: studentId# • student password: network password

  8. “How can I get information on homework, assignments, tests or quizzes?” • Agenda • should be written down • Canvas • Calendar and pages

  9. “What is your homework policy?” • Worth 2 points usually daily • Homework is due the following day unless stated otherwise • Late homework will receive half credit the next day only. • Homework provides practice that is important to the student’s success!

  10. “What happens if my child forgot their homework?” • If it’s a worksheet… • Canvas • they can download and print or copy down on lined paper • If it’s in the textbook… • Go to online textbook (links are on my website) • print or copy down on lined paper

  11. “What happens if my child is struggling with homework?” • See me during R/A the next day with attempted homework or clinic • Extra help video links on Canvas • Don’t be afraid to try Google! • If your child is spending too long on homework or there are serious reasons why it cannot be completed, send your child in with a note signed by you.

  12. “How are grades determined?” • Homework - 2 points daily • Quizzes - 25-50 points • Tests - 100 points • District tests do not go home with students • Classwork - 5-10 points • collected at random for completeness and effort • Projects - will vary • never done at home

  13. “How can I check my child’s grades?” • Home Access Center • Go to CRSD home page (crsd.org) • Scroll down and on the left hand side click Home Access Center • Check daily/weekly to see how your child is doing and if they are turning in assignments • A zero on HAC means it was never turned in

  14. “Is there a way for my child to receive additional help?” • Every day during R/A • Clinic • Thursday 3:05 - 3:45 • Buses take them home if needed • National Honors Society • Where? • North -- Tuesday • South -- Wednesday, Thursday • When? 7pm-9pm (parent must stay there)

  15. “How can I reach you if I have any questions?” • E-mail: sboisselle@crsd.org • I will answer in 24 hours • I do not check emails in the evening or weekend, so please keep that in mind. • If it’s a question or concern about homework please have your child see me during RA or bring in a signed note by you.

  16. “When will you contact me about my child?” I • I will contact you through email for the following reasons: • not completing assignments • behaviors occurring in class (I keep a behavior log all year) • Grade is dropping to a low C • Something awesome :)
