  1. Solar Radiation By Winrich Sy And Zachary Musgrave

  2. Outline • Solar Radiation information • Why we need solar radiation • Cause • Effects of Solar Radiation • Pros and Cons • Ways to Prevent it

  3. What is Solar Radiation? • heat energy from the sun. • …including the infrared.visible, and ultraviolet wavelengths. • Also referred to as shortwave radiation. • And is essential source of energy for the worlds climate system

  4. Why we need Solar Radiation • The earth receives a huge amount of energy from the sun in the form of solar radiation. • If we converted to usable energy just 0.2% of the solar radiation that falls on our nation, we would meet the energy demand of the entire United States.

  5. Causes of Solar Radiation • In some anuran species, ambient levels of UV-B cause mortality in embryonic stages and hatching success is significantly reduced. Projected increases in UV-B may affect an increasing number of species. • The adverse effects of UV-B may eventually be manifested at the population level and may ultimately contribute to population declines.

  6. Effects of Solar Radiation • Since the late 1970s, the amount of solar radiation the sun emits, during times of quiet sunspot activity, has increased by nearly .05 percent per decade. • This trend is important because, if sustained over many decades, it could cause significant climate change. • If a trend, comparable to the one found in this study, persisted throughout the 20th century, it would have provided a significant component of the global warming

  7. Kinds of solar radiation • UV-C • UV-B

  8. Pros We can convert the solar radiation into solar power. That’s all the pros. Cons May cause sun burn Causes mutation on different species Can also cause cancer. Pros and Cons

  9. Ways to Prevent Solar Radiation. • Stay in the shade. • Apply suntan lotion. • Stay indoor. • Pray that the sun doesn’t kill you.

  10. Death toll caused my solar radiation. • 2300 die each year caused my solar radiation. • People with certain skin color have either a greater or lower risk of acquiring cancer. • Another cancer, Melanoma, have killed 55,000 people.
