  1. Lead Us into the Desert Ash Wednesday

  2. Quiet Reflection: Please listen to our song and prepare your heart to receive the Ashes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RHeY4meo90

  3. Opening Prayer: We begin with a sign of our Faith. +God of the dessert,Lead us once more along wilderness paths,Lead us through the dry places in our hearts, where faith has gone stale, where forgiveness is forgotten, where hope has turned to despair, where joy has become fear.May we water those places with your loveto make our desert hearts bloom again,so we can become living gospels, living testaments to your ways.AMEN

  4. Scripture: Mark 1: 12-15 The Baptism and Temptation of JesusNot long afterward Jesus came from Nazareth in the province of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. As soon as Jesus came up out of the water he saw heaven opening and the Spirit coming down on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my own dear Son. I am pleased with you. At once the Spirit made him go into the desert, where he stayed forty days, being tempted by Satan. Wild animals were there also, but angles came and helped him. The Word of the Lord,All: Thanks Be To God.

  5. Litany: Our Lenten Journey God of the journey, lead us this Lent into the desert, where we fast on simplicity, and to the oasis, where we feast on your companionship.May we fast from angerAll: And feast on reconciliation.May we fast from selfishnessAll: And feast on generosity.May we fast from resentmentAll: And feast on gratitude.May we fast from fearAll: And feast on courage.

  6. May we fast from self-absorptionAll: And feast on compassion.May we fast from exploitationAll: And feast on justice.May we fast from despairAll: And feast on hope.May we fast from antagonismAll: And feast on unity.May we fast from foolishnessAll: And feast on wisdom.May we fast from weaknessAll: And feast on perseverance.May we fast from distractionAll: And feast on reverence.May we fast from recklessnessAll: And feast on responsibility.May we fast from deceptionAll: And feast on honesty.

  7. Loving God, may our Lent be a holy preparation. May our preparation be blessed and never finished until we rest completely in you. Amen.

  8. Reflection: High above the desert, the wind chases sand into clouds. From this rock I can see the chocking dust swirl, and then settle on the path, obstructing the way. Along the route comes an old woman with a broom. On this desert morning she sweeps the pathway clear so her children can find their way home. I follow her example and sweepthe paths of my life, althoughI know that this path leads to Gethsemane and beyond. Because I know that this path leads to Gethsemane and beyond.

  9. Distribution of the Ashes “Remember that your are dust and to dust you will return.”

  10. Closing Prayer Spirit of simplicity, bless our community,Lead us with wisdom and perseveranceon our Lenten journey. Bless us as we clear our paths to your love.Bless the marks on our foreheads;May they be a sign of fasting from fear and feasting on love. We make this prayer in the name of Jesus. AMEN
