  2. TheNovember Revolution The Bolshevik Takeover In November of 1917, squads of guards consisting of armed factory workers and sailors from a Russian fleet. These Lenin forces overthrew the government and had no support. The men wanted to flood a meeting held in a winter palace full of members of the government. The government was informed of this by young cadet and the government decided to surrender with no blood shed. Moments later armed men took over the meeting and the government fell with no struggle. The Bolsheviks in charge Bolsheviks soon were in control of a variety of cities. Lenin declared to occupy themselves in Russia to become a proletarian state. The Bolsheviks soon changed there named to communists and soon became the Russians next masters.

  3. Treaty of Brest-Litovsk • After the Bolshevik Revolution Lenin looked for peace with Germany. In March of 1918, Russia gave up a huge chunk of land and a third of its population by signing a treaty with Germany called the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. • Allied Invasion • Foreign powers intruded too. Japan seized land in East Asia that czarist Russia had once demanded. The allies sent forces to help the whites. Although the allies forces failed. It aroused Russian nationalism. Its long term effects caused the communists distrust in the west. • A Costly Triumph • Both sides took a brutal measure from this war. Both sides went to extreme measures to win this war and crush their enemies which released a reign of terror. Communists started a policy known as war communism. Which labored peasants then had to join the military. The red army however had too turn into an affective fighting force. They barrowed these tactics from ancient Rome. Under Siege

  4. Government • In 1922, the communists created a constitution that was supporting both democratic and socialist. This was for elected legislature, later called supreme soviet and set up a voting system for all people over the age of 18. These ideas for the new government was supported by the old Russian empire.
