  2. Aviation Summer Camp Overview • Ages 9-14 • 5 Day Camp • Hours 9:00am to 4:00pm (early drop off to begin at 8:00am, late pick up until 5:30pm, extra charge of $25 for early drop off and $50 for late pick up) • Cost $175.00 per week

  3. Monday • 8-9 am – Movies in the auditorium (Dogfights -History channel) • 9am – 10am- Basics of flight – Licensed pilot to teach basic aviation theory, discuss theory of lift, thrust, drag, etc. brief history of flight • 10-10:15am – break • 10:15-12pm – Tour of Museum • 12-12:45pm – Lunch • 12:45-1:30pm – Build your own glider • 1:30-2:15pm – Flying Gliders • 2:15-2:30pm – Break • 2:30-4:00pm – Make your own airplane model • 4:00-5:30pm – Movies in Auditorium

Tuesday • 8-9 am – Movies in the auditorium (Dogfights -History channel) • 9am – 10am- Finish Models • 10-10:15am – break • 10:15-12pm – Rocket Science • 12-12:45pm – Lunch • 12:45-1:30pm – Build your own Rocket • 1:30-2:15pm – Rocket Launches • 2:15-3:15pm – Break • 3:15-4:00pm – Ground Crew Training • 4:00-5:30pm – Movies in Auditorium

  5. Wednesday • 8-9 am – Movies in the auditorium (Dogfights -History channel) • 9am – 4pm- Field Trip to Virginia Air & Space Center ($5.00 per lunch) • 4:00-5:30pm – Movies in Auditorium

  6. Thursday • 8-9 am – Movies in the auditorium (Dogfights -History channel) • 9am – 10:15am- World War I and II fighter aircraft study • 10-10:15am – break • 10:15-12pm – World War I and II aircraft study continued • 12-12:45pm – Lunch • 12:45-3:30pm – Field trip to Fighter Factory • 4:00-5:30pm – Movies in Auditorium

  7. Friday • 8-9 am – Movies in the auditorium (Dogfights - History channel) • 9am – 4pm – Picnic, flight demonstrations, flight simulator rides, water balloon battle, goody bags, souvenirs, photos, etc. • 4:00-5:30pm – Movies in Auditorium

  8. Curriculum Highlights • Basics of Flight – Your children will learn the fundamentals of flight, how factors such as lift, drag, thrust and weight affect flight, as well as a brief history of flight from one of the museums pilots. • Kids will put their new found knowledge to the test by building and flying their own gliders, then further their knowledge by building a model airplane. • Kids will also learn the basics of rocketry, learning how rocket motors work, then again put their knowledge to work by building and launching their very own model rockets. • Kids will attend ground crew training, learning all of the important safety measures and hand signals required to handle aircraft on the ground. • Kids will go on 2 field trips, one to the Virginia Air & Space Center, and one to The Fighter Factory, one of the premier vintage aircraft restoration facilities in the world! • Children will spend the week amongst the largest collection of operational vintage and reproduction aircraft in the world! • The final day will be marked with demonstration flights of several of the museums restored aircraft, a picnic, with games and prizes.
