  1. Acts 2: the Holy Spirit • Pentecost (means 50th): refers to the Jewish feast of harvest held 50 days after the Passover. • God timed the appearance of the Holy Spirit - and thus the start of the church - to coincide with the Harvest Feast. • The Apostles experienced the initial Power of the Spirit on this day.

  2. Acts 2: the Holy Spirit • We are baptized with the Holy Spirit at the same time we are saved. All Christians have the Power & Being of the Spirit dwelling in them (John 3). • Filled with the Spirit; an ongoing and continual process. We are to seek continued filling of the Holy Spirit. (Billy Graham’s book) Romans 8.

The Gifts of the Spirit • Are given by the Holy Spirit at the time we are saved - at the Spirits discretion - to bring glory to God. • We are not to seek after certain gifts nor are we to be envious of those that have any certain gift(s). (I Cor 12) • No gift (or lack thereof) is a sign of the presence of the Spirit - fruit is!

  5. The Fruit of the Spirit(Gal 5:22-23) • Love • Joy • Peace • Patience • Kindness • Goodness • Faithfulness • Gentleness • Self-Control • Against such things there is no law. These should be visible in our being

  6. The Fruit of the Spirit • Are the visible expressions of power and influence of the Holy Spirit working in our lives. • Are the attributes of God. (Gal 5) • Become visible in us as we submit to the will & communion of God.

How does God speak to us • General Revelation: via creation. “The heavens declare His glory” • Special Revelation: via the Bible. “..the Word was with God, and…” • Direct Revelation: Direct to people. “Dreams, His small, still voice, face to face meetings, etc - Many ways” (All methods will be in agreement*)

Discussion Questions • How would you describe the difference between the gifts of the Spirit and the fruit of the Spirit? • Why do you suspect that first gift that the Spirit provided was tongues • How does Peter respond to those in the crowd? Any meaning for us? • What did the apostles do (v42-47)? • How are we “filled with the Spirit”?

  10. II. Know, Do, and Be • Do access the website, read the blog, and respond. • Do read ACTS chapter 3, making note of what the apostles did. • Do pray, reflect, and begin to do. • Be prayerful. • Be one who seeks the face of God & produces the fruit of the Spirit.
