  4. Introduction • Short Beacon frame is defined to reduce the size of Beacon, which needs to be minimized • Optional field indications in Short Beacon: Time of Next TBTT Present, SSID Present, Internetworking Present • Short Beacon carries TIM IE and RPS IE which are large parts in Short Beacon • RPS IE like TIM IE needs to be optimized • E.g.,) Same Group Indication [1] • RAW N Assignment field in RPS IE • Size of one RAW N Assignment filed is about 8~9 bytes [1] • Size of a RAW Group subfield is 3 bytes (about 30 %) • Size of a RAW Start Time subfield is 1 bytes (about 12%) Jeongki Kim, LG Electronics

  5. Issues • An AP can assign the paged all STAs to one RAW when the number of paged STAs is not large • In this case the information of RAW Group may be same as the paged STAs’s information indicated by TIM • Generally the Data RAWs follows a PS-Poll/Trigger-frame RAW and STAs can implicitly calculate the RAW start times of these consecutive RAWs based on the RAW Duration of the previous RAW • And if the first RAW follows the Short Beacon (or Beacon) frame, STAs can also know the start time of the first RAW without the RAW Start Time • We propose the RAW Assignment enhancement for two subfields (RAW Group & RAW Start Time) Jeongki Kim, LG Electronics

  6. Proposal • Proposed RAW N Assignment field • In RAW 1 Assignment, Same Group Indication (1) indicates that the RAW Group information of the RAW 1 Assignment is decided based on the information of STAs included in TIM Bitmaps • RAW Start Time Present (0) indicates that the RAW starts immediately after the end of the previous RAW • At the RAW 1 Assignment, RAW Start Time Present (0) indicates that the RAW starts immediately after the end of the beacon frame transmission • If the RAW Start Time Present is set to 0 in a RAW N Assignment field, then RAW Start Time subfield is not present in the RAW Assignment field Jeongki Kim, LG Electronics

  7. Example In Options subfield, the bit 0 = 1 (i.e., Access Restricted to Paged STAs Only) Jeongki Kim, LG Electronics

  8. Overhead analysis on example • Assumption • RAW Duration = 8 bits, Slot definition = 12 bits [1] • Based on example • Analysis • Size of the current RPS element = Element ID & Length (16 bits) + RAW 1 Assignment (72 bits) + RAW 2 Assignment (48 bits, by Same Group Indication) = 17 bytes(136 bits) • Size of the proposed RPS element = Element ID & Length (16 bits) + RAW 1 Assignment (40 bits) + RAW 2 Assignment (40 bits) = 12 bytes(96 bits) • Gain = 5 bytes saving (29 % overhead reduction) Jeongki Kim, LG Electronics

  9. Summary • For reducing the size of Short Beacon frame/Beacon frame, the RPS element needs to be optimized like TIM element • The size of RPS IE can be reduced by the proposed fields (i.e., RAW Start Time present, Same Group Indication in RAW 1 Assignment) • According to analysis based on example, we can obtain 29% overhead gain Jeongki Kim, LG Electronics

  10. Reference • [1] IEEE 802.11-13/0290r0 RAW Operation Improvement Jeongki Kim, LG Electronics

  11. Straw Poll 1 • Do you support to reuse the Same Group Indication field in RAW 1 Assignment as slide 6? Jeongki Kim, LG Electronics

  12. Straw Poll 2 • Do you support to include the RAW Start Time present subfield in RAW N Assignment field as slide 6? Jeongki Kim, LG Electronics
