  1. Trial report 8_Wisium_SPE-OILIS-TR-RT-YT-RD-2011-EN-V2 Ewes and lambs 2 months before lambing – 100 days after lambing OILIS SD efficiency on lambs growth and carcass quality Type of trial: R&D Trial Location: University of Lublin, Department of small ruminants – Poland Date: 2011 Introduction This trial is conducted in order to evaluate the efficiency of OILIS SD distributed on ewes in gestation, from 2 months before lambing to 100 days of age of lambs and in lambs from the weaning to the departure to the slaughterhouse. Zootechnical performances and thickness of fat and muscle on lambs are measured. Results obtained are compared with a negative control group without supplementation of OILIS SD. Materials and methods Housing and animals: 114 pregnant ewes (breed polish lowland sheep) and their offspring (=171 lambs) born between January 1st and February 15th were used for the trial. Ewes were divided in two groups 2 months before lambing. Ewes and lambs are housed together on straw, with special separated places dedicated only for lambs and another only for ewes (as described in the picture). Period: From November 2011 to April 2012. Distribution: The two groups of ewes were uniform in terms of genetic characteristics, age and maintained under the same environmental conditions. 2. Trial report 8_Wisium_SPE-OILIS-TR-RT-YT-RD-2011-EN-V2 Measures: Evaluation of zootechnical performances of lambs: - Weight at birth, 28d, 56d, 70 and 100 days of age - Feed intake recording Mortality record Thickness of fat and muscle Results Mortality The difference of mortality between the two groups is quite small. Mortality rate is comparable with results obtained in previous trials carried out in this polish farm. Concerning sanitary cryptosporidium was detected at 14 days: this disease did not contribute to mortality in this farm. Similarly, no coccidiosis infestation was detected in this farm during the trial. parameters, no Zootechnical performances Body weight Lambs weight Birth day 0 4,58 4,64 Slaughtering 100 days 27,32 30,84 28 days 56 days 70 days (kg) Group 1 Group 2 10,25 10,98 16,36 18,74 a b 20,25 23,07 a b a b The weight of lambs is significantly improved from 56 days of age to the end of the trial when ewes and lambs are supplemented with OILIS SD (p<0.05) in comparison with negative control (group 1) Weight gain is higher for group 2 during the whole trial period: lambs supplemented with OILIS SD have a weight improved by 3.5 kg in comparison with negative control at 100 days of age (= + 13%; p<0.01). In this trial, negative control group obtained a weight gain close to the breeding standard weight gain measured during a previous trial carried out in this farm with a similar feed. It corresponds to an increase of ADG of 59 g/d (p<0.01). On the global period (0 to 100 days), ADG increased by 15% (= +34 g/d/animal) on the group supplemented with OILIS SD. of lambs is Carcass quality Muscle and fat thickness have been measured by ultrasound departure of lambs slaughterhouse (around 100 days of age). When ewes and supplemented with Oilis (group 2), it allows a reduction in fat thickness and an increase in muscle thickness. This result is confirmed for both male and female (p<0.05). Fat thickness is reduced by 24.3% (p<0.01) for all lambs in comparison with negative control (group 1) and muscle thickness is increased by 16.1% for both male and female (p<0.01). These data can be explained by the fast growth of lambs supplemented with OILIS SD. These results are very interesting as farmers are paid according to the ratio of muscle and fat of lambs. before to the lambs are *: Significant results (p<0.05) **: Highly significant results (p<0.01) NEOVIA / WISIUM Talhouët, 56250 Saint-Nolff - France +33 (0)2 97 48 54 54 - contact@wisium.com - www.wisium.com NEOVIA au capital de 30 589 692€ • 636 320 038 RCS Vannes Code APE 1091 Z • Siret : 636 32003800038 Date: 2 Aug. 2018 Page : 3/3

  4. Trial report 8_Wisium_SPE-OILIS-TR-RT-YT-RD-2011-EN-V2 Economic impact The gain per lamb at the departure to the slaughterhouse (at 100 days of age) was: +5.5 €/ lamb when they were supplemented with OILIS SD in comparison with negative control. It represents a return on investment of 1.4. Conclusion This polish trial showed that the ewes supplementation with OILIS SD 2 months before lambing until 100 days post lambing combined with the supplementation of lambs until their departure to the slaughterhouse (+/- 100 days old) allows to significantly improve zootechnical performances of the offspring, even if the parasitic challenge was low. No cryptosporidiosis and no coccidiosis infection appear during the trial. A significant increase of lamb body weight since day 28 to the end of trial (+3.5 kg = +13% at the end of the trial, p<0.01) in OILIS group is observed. About ADG, an improvement occurred for the whole trial period in comparison with the negative control group: +34 g/animal/d (=+15%). These data confirm previous results obtained with lambs and goats kid. The measurement of the thickness of fat and muscle on lambs before the departure to the slaughterhouse were performed on this trial. A decrease of thickness of fat was observed (- 24.3% for all lambs; p<0.01) and an improvement of muscle (+16.1%; p<0.01). In conclusion, OILIS supplementation leads to both better zootechnical performance and meat quality involving a positive economic impact for farmers with a ROI estimated at 1.4. The sanitary conditions of the trial were good (no coccidiosis, no cryptosporidiosis). The action of the plant extracts of OILIS on the gut integrity can explain those interesting results.
