  1. What Is Link Building and how Does it work? Link building is the process of getting other websites to link back to your website. All marketers and business owners should be interested in building links to drive referral traffic and increase their site’s authority. That said, what exactly are links and why should one want them? Links are basically a way for two websites (or two pages on a website) that are connected by a hyperlink or an inbound email, etc., to communicate with each other. When this occurs, one or both websites gets credit for it among the search engines because the search engine understands that linking between them isn’t just random activity. Simple Link-Building Strategies: There are a variety of ways to link to other websites, but the “best” way comes down to the subject matter. Linking with sites that have relevant content to your own can be useful in that it’ll help you rank better in the SERPs. But getting a bunch of links from irrelevant websites will likely not help you rank well and could even penalize you. The simple strategies below include things like

  2. submitting press releases, linking out to other sites, guest blogging, and leveraging their social shares. 1 — Submit Press Releases: A press release is a media tool that an organization can use to gain backlinks without actually sending out press releases. This happens when you submit a press release to the newswire with a link to your website. Newswire sites will often link back to your website. 2 — Link Out: This is similar to submitting press releases, except that instead of submitting press releases, you’re linking out directly from your site. This is most useful when you’re trying to get links from sites that are relevant. Instead of linking directly to the source (the site), you’ll want to link using rel=”nofollow” or dofollow in an anchor tag, which will prevent the search engines from giving those links any credit for it in their rankings. 3 — Guest Blogging: This is the digital equivalent of being published in a newspaper. It’s essentially becoming a guest blogger on another website with your own opinions and writing content. Because of the nature of this, it’s important to have your own content on your website. The other site will probably link to it anyway, but if you don’t have anything on your own site to link to, you’ll lose out.

  3. 4 — Leverage Social Shares:It’s possible for people to share links from your blog or website within their social media networks through blogging tools like AddThis and ShareThis, as well as sharing tools on various social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. While this won’t directly improve your website’s rankings, it can help with branding and establishing yourself as an authority. How Do I Know If I’m Building Links Properly? You’ll want to be sure that you are building links properly if you don’t want to get penalized by search engines. To build links properly, you must have multiple inbound links from unique domains. You’ll also need to have related content on your site that’s actually something people will read, thus increasing the likelihood of them linking to it on their own website. Finally, you’ll need to have a high domain authority site link back to yours.
