Why should we grow membership • Lack of numbers never indicates lack of enthusiasm but… • It means more work for everyone • Sometimes leads to member 'BURN-OUT‘ • The bigger the club, the more can be achieved • To make it easier on existing members, we need more members.
Why should we grow membership • Lets think about the near future: • Our centennial celebrations – 2014 • Hopefully a major fundraising project to benefit our community • Target: 100 members to celebrate 100 years • 40% growth target in 4 years
Club in a Club • Makes membership growth easy • Makes membership growth a total club responsibility, but takes the intimidation factor away. • Clubs that do it well and follow each step usually will see 20%-50% growth in 12 months.
Membership growth - a total club responsibility • Lets do an exercise: • On the sheet at your table, fill in as many names possible that first come to mind - at least three names • Forget whether they have been asked before • Forget if you think that they are too busy (they decide that – not you). • Use your business cards for a prompt • don't worry about full details • That’s it! • Gone is the embarrassment of hounding friends to join! • You simply put down their name • The Club committee does the rest – what a relief!
So, what next… • The committee collects the names (includes classification) • Circulates the list to the club to firm up details • Goes to the board for review • Back to the club so everybody knows the potential members
Ok, that’s easy… • A letter is sent out to all potential members from the club president • Inviting the potential member and partner to attend our Rotary meeting. • Expected results: • For every 100 names, approx. 15 should respond positively… • Of these, over 50% will join • These results were based on 25 participating clubs surveyed
Special Rotary Event • A special night is planned with a few motivational speakers highlighting the work of Rotary in our community and abroad. • Those potential members who show interest are invited to continue to attend our regular meetings.
Induction Night! • When potential members are settled in: • A big induction night is planned with District Governor and Assistants invited to assist. • Important: New member partners invited and given special treatment
That’s it! Questions
