  7. Expectations, Rules, Guidelines • Attend every class • Have a positive attitude • Tries their best

Rentals • Local Music Stores vs. School Instruments • Cost is $100 for School Instruments for the entire school year (that’s $10 a month!) – still a great bargain compared to music stores • Covers maintenance fees, general cleaning, pad replacements, acid baths (brass), or replacing old and damaged instruments

  9. At Home Practicing – Look for... • Adequate lighting and space • Posture • Effective Practicing • Long Tones (5-10 minutes) • Technique (5-10 minutes) • Difficult Passages (includes rundown)(20 minutes) • Anything enjoyable (5-10 minutes)

  12. Whistler Retreat • Purpose: Gives the students an opportunity to learn music, while having fun, at a different location. Professional Clinicians are hired to teach your kids in a smaller group and one-to-one instruction. • Social – bond with the music department

Whistler Retreat (con’t) • ALL Grades (8-12) • COST: $150 (see next slide)LOCATION: Tantalus Lodge, Whistler, BCDATE: Friday, November 15 to Sunday, November 17.FEES and FORMS to be submitted NO LATER THAN: OCTOBER 15, 2013. • 6 to a room. NOT mixed genders. • Information Package will go home this week

  15. Whistler Retreat (con’t) • Parent Chaperones ARE needed • Need equal Male/Female Chaperones • If too many, will draw to be fair. Contact via email if interested. Due NEXT Friday. • Friday Dinner and Rooms are paid for, though parent chaperones will be rooming together – if request to have own room, comes from your own money. • Transportation is provided (bus) – if you choose to drive, costs borne by you

  16. Trips and Festivals • Highlight of the whole school year!! • Concert Band and Jazz Band Festivals – What are they? • Need essentially everyone in the bands to go, else it’s incomplete • Expectations, rules, and regulations are extremely high – safety!

  18. Financial Assistance • Through Fundraising! • Each student has their own individualized accounts • How many number of hours worked will be counted, including parent/guardian hours!
